How much are a dozen eggs where you live?

Mine are laying 6 eggs per day on average. after initial investment and feed, I estimate we "pay" 50 cents an egg now.. so $6 per dozen for fresh eggs.

here are the girls taking a walk today.

I was in the car a week or so back when a piece on NPR was airing about the shortage of young chickens brought about because people were buying them up to have their own source of eggs. The poultry science expert went on to explain that one expense folks should expect and factor into the cost of their eggs is the cost of taking your chicken(s) to the vet.

$2.96 in Maryland.

I guess with the salmonella outbreak prices will go back up. Just because they can. Oh brother.

Our local Amish farm store lady told me yesterday that the cost of feed has been dropping, and she thinks they'll probably drop the price to $2/dz in a week or two.
An excuse to lower prices?! Now that's something you don't hear of every day...

Eggs are for sure down. Got a pack of 60 large less than $15 compared to before they were over $50. I forget exactly what they were but close to normal.
I use to grab those from a farm where I got my fruits and veggies when my cousin( lived with me after his parents passed in early 90s) would come home for leave from the navy with some of his boys. They eat and drink like pigs when it's free 😂. Don't ever let a group of navy guys hit the bar ya bounce at when they're always broke.
Amazing when you have clothes and food and housing Givin to ya for your service but your check always disappears.

Our daughter just stopped by with a dozen eggs for us from our neighborhood Amish farm. She said the price has dropped to $1.75/dz large with your own carton, $2.00 with their carton. Occasionally some of the eggs look more like jumbos, but they say they don't get enough of them to separate them out from the large. They recently added duck eggs at $4.00/dz, but we haven't tried them yet.

My girls are still producing just fine. Spitting out 4 eggs almost every day. We had so many stalked up, we actually had to throw away a couple dozen because they got too old.

Cost per egg? No clue. Never figured it out. It's a great "hobby".... who tracks money when it's a "hobby!"

Loses $ = hobby

.... Probably, but my girls are so much fun and so loveable. Yea, chickens do have personality!
Chickens are so cool, seems everyone around where I live keeps them and sell eggs roadside. I see them all the time free ranging, struttin' around peckin' at $hit, too cool.
