No purchase yet, trying to learn all I can in a two-year window. 65 y/o retired newspaper photographer, tech worker. Still an active musician. Want beaucoup solar on the rig.

Our plan at this time is to rent a space at Coyote Howls in SW Arizona for the whole year, spend six months in Arizona and six months traveling the west, looking for dark skies, ample campsites (we will be almost 100 percent boondockers). First trip each year will be to the VLA in New Mexico, five nights at Datil Well campground. During the new moon. Stargazing is a big deal to us. Have Mak-Cass, will travel.

Winter will also be the time for rig/solar upgrades. Whatever we get, it will have a Banks intake-exhaust-trans solution.

Love the VLA and the Datil Well campground is on our short list.  Living in ABQ there really is no excuse at this point even though we weekend mostly.

Get retired and get over here - we'll give ya a warm welcome!

Welcome to the forum! I love looking at the sky when it's full of stars and no civilization in sight! Beautiful.

Hi, welcome to the forum.  You might put this on your calender:

We camp hosted at Demotte Campground, in the National Forest outside the park.  A lot of amature astronomers stay there also and set their scopes up out in the meadow in front of the campground for other campers to view.  There's also a ton of disbursed camping in the area, if you'd rather.
