We are pretty new to Florida.  How do we prepare our rv for a hurricane? Is there anything we should do to it?

The best thing you can do, assuming there is a chance you could take a direct hit, is move it

Seriously, roll up the Canopy, and park it in a sheltered spot, away from any lakes or other flat areas.
Close all the vents and windows, and disconnect shore power.

Drive north and go west!  NOW. 75 and 95 will be a parking lot.

Stay off the interstate.
Go up to Ocala, and take US-27 ALT north through Chiefland, Cross City and Perry, then up US-19 into Georgia.

What you need to do to prepare for a hurricane depends on where you are located. If you are located in the Keys then get the hell out. If you are located on a beach then get the hell out. If you are located inland then you don't have to leave, just put everything away.

If your RV is permanent there like ours is you should have hurricane tie downs. They are iron rods that go four feet into the ground and have a circlular anchor at the bottom. Then the hole that they go in is filled with concrete.
they are attached to the frame with either a turnbuckle or cable and clamps.  I have six on each side .
The attachment can be removed in a matter of minutes so the rv or trailer can be driven or towed away at any time.
Some people have hurricane straps from the the anchors going completely over the top of the RV and connected to the tie downs on the other side.
We also have a sliding glass patio door on our trailer and I have plywood screwed over it to hopefully to protect the glass from windblown objects
Your best option is to get it away from the path long before the hurricane hits, but that is always guess work.

Nearly the entire state of Florida is within the possible strike zone at this time.  It appears that some of you advise that everyone in the path evacuate well in advance.  21 million people. And their furry children, of course.  Is that reasonable and practical advice?

Yes Secure house. pack RV.> Drive to somewhere OUTSIDE the storm area.
I would make a suggestion but it's political

So how about say Kentucky.. that should be outside the Storm area.

We called and our storage place is putting our rv inside during the storm.  Quite nice of them.  We are going to stay and weather it out unless forced evacuation.  I grew up in alabama, tornado capital of the south. Talk about unpredictable!  Thanks for all advice.

Oh, well, yeah, if it's in storage, then you're probably fine. Central part of the state isn't vulnerable to a lot of what a hurricane brings with it.
The coastal regions generally suffer the most. And if you're near a river, you could see some storm surge damage.
The occasional tornado can spin off the storm, but they are generally pretty mild, compared to the average Midwestern wind storm.
