Members debated the claim that hybrid cars have death rates three times higher than gasoline vehicles, referencing recent articles and studies. Some RVers expressed skepticism about the data, questioning whether improvements in hybrid safety have been made since the studies cited, and noting that one article focused more on fire risk than actual fatalities. Others shared personal anecdotes, with several stating they’ve never experienced a hybrid fire, while others recounted incidents... More...
I hate it when those little cars get caught under the bumper of my fuel guzzling truck. I finally found if you drag them over railroad tracks they will eventually roll free.
Old trucker showing the ropes to a new driver... All of a sudden they feel a minor bump and a funny sound but continue on their way. New driver asks "What was that?" Old tricker replies "... Smart Car. We'll get it out at the next stop."

On a serious note.. My first trip out when I got my Class A the road was shut down ... Nice Driving a House. I had coffee. water. The "Necessary" room complete with working plumbing. and everything I needed to basically park for a spell in full comfort.

What closed the road.... Well.. Your joke was no joke, Some idiot weaving in and out of traffic weaved UNDER a semi trailer and.... Well he won't be doing that again.

Going all the way back to the subject line
I see your subject says "Hybrid car death rates are three times higher"

Reading that the first time I assumed it meant occupants are 3 times more likely to die.
But the article said the car is 3 times more likely to burn.

I mentioned seeing (or dealing with) Several car fires. ONLY three did anyone burn and I'm not sure in one of them if they died first or from the burns.

One of them I had to track down the next of kin so notification could be made.. Found 'em. Got 'em temp assigned to a different facility (They worked for the state Dept of health,, Mental hospital) So got em sent to one I knew the Troopers could find and thus Therapists were.... on site.. (I who was widely known for not having emotions.... Actually think about that kind of thing when the need arises).

It has to be the UGLIEST vehicle ever produced.
I guess I am the only one in this forum who likes the looks of the Cybertruck. I think all the other pickup trucks are ugly, even my own Dodge Ram.

But I try not to buy any vehicle based on looks. I need vehicles to drive, not to look at.

Could it be just because it looks different that most people think the Cybertruck is ugly?

No. It's just ugly.

I do not disagree with that, in fact, I was thinking the same thing when I posted that.

But that is not what I am comparing here.

FWIW, you can do the same with motorcycles. Sport bikes are a lot more dangerous to ride than are touring bikes by the statistics.

Well, actually it is the rider.

Only seen a few car fires but saw my share of boat fires (and rescues) when I was in the Coast Guard '77-'83. The attitude I took when I was riding (various motorcycles) was that every auto driver out there wanted to kill you and would find as many ways as they could to do so. Served me well. In 30 years of riding never had an accident.
When I ride I drive like every other driver is drunk or an idiot.

That has served me well for 35+ years.

Yes, but a different type of rider will buy a sport bike than a touring rider.

And each usually has no interest in the other. Like me, I do not look a sport bikes, I am strictly a touring type, and a lot slower than most other riders. I often ride below the speed limit when there is nobody behind me.

But out here, on AZ Hwy 80, I am often riding at WOT!

But that is in the eco mode on my electric bike. It has no real cruise control. At WOT in Eco mode the bike is at 66 MPH and the speed does not change up or downhill. That is my freeway cruise control, WOT in ECO mode.

I can also set the max speed in the custom mode. And then I have any top speed I want. There are three settings: ECO, Custom, and Sport. I never use the Sport mode. It puts everything at max and then will do 100 MPH almost instantly. It could even go faster, but they programmed a top speed of 100 MPH in that small bike for any mode.

Electrics are nothing like ICE. From 80 to 100 MPH electrics are NOT slow to gain speed, very unlike ICE. But they are also quick to drain the battery charge at such speeds.

Yeah, it is best, IMO, to ride a bit scared. Not just of other drivers, but also deer and other animals that run across the road when up in the mountains.

Yeah, it didn't take my wife and I long to quit the late-night rides we used to take once we moved to Arkansas. I don't remember if it was a group of deer or the bear that wandered out in front of us one night that brought those moonlight rides to an end.
