I Am considering buying an INR testing devise.  This test is necessary  for people Coumidn and other blood thining drugs, usually after a heart attach or stroke.
Could someone please tell me it this machine and supplies can be provided by Medicare like the machine and supplies the government gives diabetic patients.
The reason for my consideration in this is that sometimes it is difficult to find a clinic that ''will and can'' test the INR  level in my blood.
Any help on this would be appreciated and I will pay the usual ten cents for really good answers,  five cents for really good ideas, and nothing for drooling or silly looks.....

I currently take Coumadin, actually the generic Warfarin (basically rat poison), and do the weekly/monthly tests.  My Cardiologist has told me that he'll give me a script that will allow me to procure the required machine and test strips for at-home testing, I just haven't checked with my Medicare supplemental insurance company yet.  Yours is a timely post.

My cardiologist claim the machines aint feasible for mere mortals to mess with. Course he has a dawg in the fight since his nice little attached lab be ready to do some testing when needed..lol.

When I looked at the machine, the cost and supplies were out of sight. When on the road, I usually go to the local hospital for the test. Make sure your doctor writes "provide results to patient" on the prescription since many states get antsy about giving out information.

Good question. Like BernieD I checked the cost of the machine and supplies and found them to very high. Recently I brought the issue up again. The Doc told me He would write a prescription for the machine etc.. He told me (and I didn't check) that I would have to take the test more frequently and report the results to the machines manufacturer or the ins co.. Like Seajay, I occasionally have a difficult time getting tested. I'm lucky my results are pretty consistent, so if I miss a test the Nurse only yells a little.
