The battery in the Jeep went west yesterday.  When we got it replaced, we found the top seam had split and one cell was effectively dry.  Neither the shop nor I have ever seen this!!  Now to ge the engine compartment cleaned!!  VBG

Jim,

>>It's too cold in Montana!!:)<<

The bad news is that it wasn't due to the cold!!  The jeep has not been exposed to much below 30 degrees this last year and even then the engine was warm.  This is a little frustrating.  I would have liked to analyze th battery but had to leaveit as I have no place to work on that kind of stuff.  :-((

It seems to me that battery case failure could be caused by one of three things:

Manufacturing defect.

Battery being banged about because of failure to secure it.

Excess buildup of vapor because of vent being plugged.

Woody

I guess we will never know who made it or why it failed.  I don't think it was mistreated as it was well tied down, it was a sealed non-maintenance type and had a Chrysler label on it.  All that means is that it was built by the low bidder.  G

Anyway it is gone and behind us!
