I have a satin bedroom doorknob assembly which has broken inside, causing the "outside" knob to turn freely, therefore if I close the door it will be latched with no way to open.

These knobs appear to be smaller than the typical residential knobs sold at hardware stores. I see them online sold as RV doorknobs -  are they really RV specific or have I just missed them in the hardware stores? Thx

Most likely standard. though in some cases due to "Thin wall" construction they are thinner.  But most likely standard.. Take parts with you to the hardware/home improvement store.

And sometimes the are called mobile home locks.  I agree with John, take the parts with you to the Hdw store.

Is this speculation or do you speak from experience?  ;D

I thought you lived alone.  So why do you need to close the door?
I rarely ever close mine.

I do, but what if I want to keep the dog out? Oh wait, I don't have a dog

The answer to your question Mr Smarty Pants, is that:
A) one of my daughters may visit occasionally
B) I don't like things that are broken

;)

Checked at Lowe's, not standard. The door isn't routed for the mechanism, and the distance from the striker to the center of the knob is shorter. Looks like I'll have to go online

That made me laugh.......      from my corner  ::) ;D

Lowe's/Home Depot probably won't be able to help, but try a mobile home supply place.
