Holes in cell coverage aren't surprising even in a big city, since it's just upper UHF radio waves, which are line of sight and bounce around a lot, even with antennas every few miles. The surprise, to me, is that they'd publish holes that small.

And there are areas in Colorado (for example) that there are non-published holes, such as the Peaceful Valley Scout ranch just south of Elbert, CO, where at the dining hall there is no reception, but walk several hundred feet up the hill and you get good reception (for those familiar it's on the Palmer Divide).
