which is best?
also they say hitch rated for 5000lbs and our 1997 honda crv weighs around 3000lbs. can these tow our car?
i think the weight of the rv comes into it?

thanks all

The Jayco is rated to tow 3500#, the Roadtrek is rated to tow 5000. I'd feel better with the Roadtek personally. I more wonder why you feel the need to pull a car around when you would have a rather nimble class B that would get around very easily?

The new Roadtrek starts at $164,500 Canadian, or $141,570 US. There are valid reasons for the difference in cost but only you can say if those differences are worth the extra cost to you. Some of us spend the money to get a Lincoln car and others just buy a Ford and both are satisfied.
the 164 is $US
thanks

In 2016 Erwin Hymer Group of North America bought Roadtrek and after finical audits, it was discovered that someone was cooking the books to the tune of $70 to $100 million. Hymer was shut down and went into receivership and later, when Thor bought the Hymer Group, they excluded the Roadtrek operation from the purchase due to this. the Roadtrek operation was then sold to French RV maker Rapido in 2019, who restarted operations.

Basically the 2017 model you are looking at is an orphan. nothing wrong with that, its old enough that it really doesn't matter, and given that RV's are made largely from a bunch of standard parts bought from other companies, there is not much that cannot be repaired or replaced on it. But still, it is an orphan, and that affects the price.

The Roadtrek is on a Dual Rear Wheel Mercedes Sprinter 3500 van, which would have the 3.0L diesel and 5 speed automatic. The Jayco is on a front wheel drive Promaster van chassis, with a Pentastar 3.6L V6 gas engine (good luck with that) and a GVWR of 9350 lbs vs the Sprinter's 11,030lbs.

On one hand what you say regarding towing has merit, but there are some who once set up in campground do not want to be bothered braking down and resetting. Another reason might be while a Class B is nimble and some use as a daily driver, a smaller vehicle can be a better choice in some parking situations.

I feel like I'm dragging anchor towing 5k lbs with my 32' MH w/3v V10 and 5 spd torqshift transmission. I guess you could tow 3.5k with the one and 5k with the other, but I don't imagine it would be pleasant.

Another case of personal perception, I think. Performance is no different than beauty or convenience in that each of us has his/her own standards.
