Members shared a range of experiences with Snap-On tools, focusing on their high cost, lifetime warranty, and the realities of warranty service. Several RVers and mechanics praised Snap-On for quality and hassle-free replacements, but others noted that warranty fulfillment can depend on the individual franchisee, with some refusing to honor warranties for tools not purchased directly from them. This inconsistency led some to switch to other brands like Mac Tools.

The discussion... More...

It appears the AI fee information confusion comes from this Are You Breaking the New BLM Camping Rules? and even gets it wrong.

Ignore rest as Pam's post #26 clarified the fees have not changed! Lot less words too! ;)

La Posa Long Term Visitor Area | Bureau of Land Management website shows fees not increased with big disclaimer related to shutdown:
Government Shutdown
Due to the current lapse of federal appropriations:
 • this website may not be up to date;
 • transactions submitted via this website might not be processed until appropriations are enacted; and
 • we may not be able to respond to inquiries until appropriations are enacted.

Did they do away with the banner on the page that accuses the Democrats of being responsible for the shutdown?
I don't normally pay much attention to politics, but that just pissed me off when I saw it on the Forest Service website. As far as I'm concerned all of the politicians of both parties are responsible and a banner like that looks totally unprofessional.
OK, I'm done now.

Such a sacrifice! Is it kind of like each new project needs a new tool? Kevin always thinks so.
I'm currently parked in a repair shop having brakes and front wheel bearings replaced on my coach. The Snap-On truck came to the shop yesterday. It reminded my of my 35 year career and how every week I hoped my wife didn't show up to take me to lunch whilst that truck was there. She hated that truck, even though she understood I needed the tools to make a living.

My oldest son is a mechanic and has only bought tools from the Snap-On truck for years. He says that, in addition to the high quality of their tools, on the very rare occasion one breaks, it's replaced (from the truck) with no questions asked.

Yeah, I looked through Amazon, eBay, and E Trailer and common "hinges" pop up, nothing specialized looking.

Try to forget about the negative comments. They know nothing. Hard to believe people are using the bootstraps thing these days. Times are hard these days. Much harder than they were back in the day especially for professional workers. New college grads are having trouble finding jobs in degrees that were very marketable just a few years ago. Mid to late career people are also finding serious challenges. Lots of low skilled and low paying service and labor jobs out there these days but few decent paying jobs w benefits especially for people w degrees. I was a member of three unions during my career. During my last gig, the state of South Dakota majority banned collective bargaining for my union which wipe it completely out of the water. A very said day for teachers and the education system of the entire state…making it harder to attract good teachers to this state. The fat cats don’t play fair. They never did and they never will. Breaking unions has destroyed the middle class. People should not have to turn to living full time in an RV to make ends meet unless they choose that life style…especially teachers who are educating our young people. Education is a critical part of capitol development for every society. That simple fact has been lost to many.
Pure politics prof.

Thank you.
It really is astonishing the audacity of some to make insulting, arrogant little comments and then act offended when called out.
It's clear some people have some kind of envy towards those who do things differently than they did, and will do anything to shut down, shame, and gaslight all opposition. Pathetic.

The whole "system" is just that: a system designed to destroy society.

As an artist and teacher, writer, off-road trainer, I think I can do OK. I just need a mobile place to work from for now. I have considered a bigger trailer, but I drive an FJ Cruiser with a 5000lb towing capacity. Probably the biggest trailer I can move to is an older RPod.
Even so, the trailer I had before, though still small, had a lot more usable space than the Casita.
The Casita is a good little trailer, but just way too small for me.

Still seems like an older RV is the way to go. I do worry though, because of the obviously higher likelihood of problems. I will have to be really careful.Another option is just going with an RPod or similar, until I can maybe get a small piece of land and put a tiny home on it.

But I need a workshop-even a small one.

The reason I don't look into a box truck is because of the difficulty in getting it insured. I started to convert a school-bus a few years ago and sold it. I got derailed with my ex wanting it to be super comfortable etc. and I was working on it alone.
I should have kept it as my original plan: the front third for living: the rest as a simple workshop.
But I don't want to do the school-bus thing again. Too much work in just getting it ready to convert, and all those windows need replacing...

A box truck is all square and much easier to convert, especially if kept relatively simple. But again, the issues with having it insured, etc.

That really depends on the driver since they're all franchised. When I first moved to Arkansas the SO driver that serviced my new workplace wouldn't warranty a 3/8 drive 1/2" deep socket since I hadn't bought anything from him. I waited until the second time he came in, got a fellow tech to warranty the socket for me and started hitting the Mac truck that came the day after Snap-On. I worked at that dealership 3 times for a total of 9 years and never bought so much as a pocket screwdriver from that d###head.

Understand they're franchised. But I assume that the ultimate cost of warranteed/replaced tools is on SO, not the driver/frańchìsee. You'd think he'd know that refusing to warrantee/replace a defective tool would result in the loss of a (potential) customer 🤔

A friend of mine was a franchised Snap On dealer. He would replace tools bought from another dealer. Snap On replaced the tool to him.

I looked at snap on tools many years ago and was horrified at the price.
The sales guy explained that they were gauranteed for life.
However, as a mobile HVAC tech, they're not guaranteed against loss.
I can't ever remember breaking a kamasa, draper, britool wrench, but i've misplaced a few!

A lot of hand tools are warranted for life. Craftsman, Kobalt, Husky and even Harbor Freight.
Though they may not be the initial quality, how may of us actually need the $$$$ Snap Ons?

I've worked with tools all my life and sometimes had to abuse tools with extra leverage to get the job done. I've always bought tools from reputable manufacturers and never had a socket or spanner (wrench) give out.

Same here for the small number of years I earned a living working with tools. OTOH my oldest son (living in not-so-sunny South Wales) worked for many years on very heavy plant/equipment in the steel works. He swore by Snap On, which I assumed came about because of bad experiences with other manufacturers. I'll ask him the reason next time make a call to the other side of the Severn Bridge.

Back in the 70's I converted a Chevy step van (like a UPS truck) into a camper. It was about 24' with double rear doors, was all open and empty, and the walls and floors were metal. So it was easy to bolt in appliances and furniture. It had been a refrigerated milk truck so it was really well insulated. It made an excellent camper. The insurance company didn't care about interior modifications.
