Jackie and Steve reported they are back in Boulder City getting organized for a 2026 Southwest trip, likely starting with St. George, Utah, then heading through Nevada. They shared early stops around Kingman, Wickieup, and Oatman, noting the saguaros were not blooming yet, plus a visit to Julie’s Saloon and later hikes in Gold Butte National Monument to see petroglyphs and rock formations.

Other members suggested Nevada areas and camping options, including Ichthyosaur State Park, Great...

We're back. 😄

Currently in Boulder City getting organised for travelling. We think we're going to St George UT first then up through Nevada for starters.

We had a day out to Kingman (breakfastin local Diner), Wickieup (that cactus had a tiny owl in it one year) and Oatman the other day which was fun. We were hoping to see a few saguaros blooming but too early.

We had a fun time in Julie's Saloon Oatman where the barman, Rico, created a nice photo of us with a local 😂.

What parts of NV will you be in? In early June, (after the big holiday) I plan on heading for Ichthyosaur State Park, which Tom & I went to around 40 years ago. I do not remember much about the place so I decided it will be my next trip--in my Y2K RV--which is much better setup for boondocking. I will visit many other campgrounds, including Great Basin Park and stay a while next time. Also Big Creek and Kingston Camp again, All these places are first come-first serve places.

I assume you have driving up the Old Smokey Valley before, which is on the way to Kingston.

@DonTom

Don't think we have done that drive. We went to Great Basin via Panaca and Pioche. This time we will drive to Panaca via St George so will miss it again.

We might stay at Cathedral Gorge again if space. Not sure yet what we're doing but I know there are some petroglyphs we will probably seek out in the area.

Steve wants to go to the Ruby Mountains and Hells Canyon on the Eastern Oregon/Idaho border.

We will set off early June as we are going to a Nazareth concert before we leave here. They are a rock band from the town of my birth. Think there's only one original member left.

We love that area of Nevada.. we'll worth it to buy their park year pass, 225. Then dry camping free, hookups 10 dollars. From St George you can take cut off from Cedar City to Nevada. Kershaw Ryan great park, lots of boondocking on highway 93 between Calinte and Ash Springs. We live pioche, Spring Valley State Park... And Strawberry Pass before Great Basin NP...
HOPE to see you this summer!

We have had a nice week. Met up with Pam & Kevin UTTransplant for beer and some food at the Abel Baker Brewery. Forgot to get a photo.

We had a couple of hikes with friends in Gold Butte National Monument to see some petroglyphs and some unusual rock formations. It was hot!

Steve replaced some parts in our toilet flush pedal as it had a small leak. We had a few hours at the pool and today is laundry day. Yay.

Our friend used to work at the Beer Zombies Brewery here in Boulder City but she recently moved to a bar in town.

We've been 3 times now. At weekends it has live music with local bands/singers and one night they have an open mic night.

They have a nice upstairs Tikki Bar too so you can get away from the music if it's not to your taste.

I've tried many of the cocktails and they're really good. They frequently do new recipes.

Its a cocktail bar called The Skinny Bar. Well worth a visit if you're in town.

We had another couple of nights out. One with friends where we had a nice Mexican meal in Big T's Cantina and more cocktails in the Skinny Bar.

We were waiting for a shorter hitch to arrive.

As I had really wanted to go to a Bryan Adams concert but had thought we'd be gone, I booked it.

What a great show. An hour and half of him playing acoustic guitar and singing. At times accompanied by his pianist. He has a great sense of humour and told some nice stories. We really enjoyed it. Had a $25 👀 substandard cocktail in a bar then went home.

We eventually set off on our adventures on Friday.

We arrived in Alamo Nevada and visited a few petroglyph sites and Pahranagat Wildlife Refuge.

Yesterday a friend from Vegas took us to 3 other sites. Great day but tiring.

Today we will be heading north and will potentially be at Cave Lake State Park for a couple of nights.

Change of plan. We're going to head to Angel Creek Campground near Wells Nevada instead.

If you haven't already been to Cathedral Gorge, consider staying at Kershaw Ryan State Park. It's a great campground and a short distance to the Gorge.
We've camped at Cathedral Gorge. Its really beautiful there. Thanks for the recommendation though.
