Jackie & Steve 2025 Roadtrip

9th June left Boulder and got checked into Wonderland RV Park in Torrey which is small but very nice. Had a drive out to see Pando, the largest organism in the world which is one huge aspen then Fishlake and 7 Mile Road which still had some snow, before heading home. Still storms around.

Aye, Torrey is a good location to visit Capitol Reef. If you came down from Fish Lake atop Boulder Mountain, you must have come through the little town of Loa, approx 20 miles from Torrey. At one end of town I saw a sign that said Fly Shop, and had to investigate. A young couple ran this fly fishing shop, and I booked my first fishing guide trip with them.

The wife had an English accent, but she had lived in Neath, one of my abodes in not-so-sunny South Wales. Small world.

Nice trip! You are in some mighty fine fly fishing territory...Colorado and Utah being our favorites...and of course our home State of Oregon. You are also in an awesome area to see fireflies put on their display as good or better than where the crowds flock to see them in the Smokey Mountains. Having seen these displays in these locations multiple times...I would say better...

Your timing is great but you will need to find a local to help you find the nearest best secret local place to catch it and you will most likely need to hike in and spend a night. Desert Solitaire by Edward Abbey is how we first discovered this many years ago and is an interesting read about the desert of years ago too.

Today we drove out to Cathedral Valley in Capitol Reef from the Elkhorn Road. It was beautiful and we only saw one other vehicle. Perfect. Glass Mountain (gypsum I think) is my favourite thing there.
