I had that issue in my Y2k RV at Lake Havasu City, AZ at the first RV Park I tried. A woman came out to look at my RV and told me to get lost!

But not in those words.

She politely told me there is another RV park down the road where they would be fine with my old piece of junk. So I strayed there, and all was fine. That was the time I met Bill @HueyPilotVN after I got a new tranny in Needles, CA. I also had a lot of other work done on it while I lived there in the RV for a week at the repair shop right off the freeway.

I get that private park rules are set and enforced by the owner, but come on...
We were turned away from the Motorcoach Resort in Polson because we had a brand new Super-C which arguably cost more than a pile of older Class A's which they were allowing in the park, only because they were Class A's. Dumb rules are dumb. We wouldn't want to tarnish their image (with our c-class trash).
They suggested we stay at the KOA just outside of the resort (which they also own). GTFO, that one goes on our "never" list.

40$ a night is a joke...I would never pay that myself.

RV parks are primarily in competition with motels, and a $40/night motel in any US city I have been in would be pretty skanky. The RV park, if you have the RV, gets you access to electricity, water, and sewer. In many places it will also get you access to the restrooms and showers. If the RV is in decent shape, you cook in it and save big $ vs. eating out that a motel would cost.

$40 a night adds up to about $1200 per month. I don't have experience with it, but I understand in many parts of the country that will easily rent a lot at an RV/mobile home park. That might be something to look into.

Where are you staying at the North RIm, Judy? My wife and I hosted our first 2 years at DeMotte Campground, which is about 15 miles from the gate of the park. Lots of dispersed camping available for free up there, if you're into boondocking.

Old Crow, I am staying directly in the national park campground at the North Rim campground.

I never boondock because I am alone and in my late 70s. Just do not feel comfortable out in dispersed camping.

IMO RV parks are primarily in competition with other RV parks, not motels. Different community of travelers altogether.

Regarding the OP’s comment about the hardships of life on the road, I think there are reasonable so,unions. For packages, look for a package delivery location. They cost a small amount, but they hold the package for you for a not. We use them regularly.Also, I don’t buy from anyone who won’t send tracking info. There is no reason to have to park in town for days when you need a package. Stay in your nice campground and show up on,y when you package has been delivered. As for prescriptions, just use a national chain - Walmart, Walgreen’s, and CVS are obvious choices. When I need a refill, I call the pharmacy where I will be in 5-6 days. I ask them to transfer the prescription, and then I pick it up. Now if you are talking Class I controlled drugs, that is hard for any traveler, but regular prescriptions are easy.

And if you think $40/ night is ridiculous, you won’t be staying in the hope of resorts that require rigs <10 years.

I never boondock because I am alone and in my late 70s. Just do not feel comfortable out in dispersed camping.

I've stayed at a couple of places up on the Kaibab plateau that we found while we were hosting. One of them we stayed for 4 days and never saw another soul near our campsite. Another was at a viewpoint around 14 miles off the pavement. Only other people we saw while at that one were other Jeepers like us who marveled that I had driven a 37' Class A down "that road". Hey, it took me close to an hour to drive those 14 miles each way.
If you decide you want to extend your stay, Demotte is a nice Forest Service campground next to the Kaibab Lodge and across the street from a nice camp store. They usually have plenty of first come first serve sites if you get there in the morning.

Several options come to mind. Lots of nice parks have monthly rates that work out far cheaper than daily rates, so if your friends have flexible schedules and can stay put for a while, they can save money that way. Speaking of staying put, maybe they could host at a park for a while....that usually gets you a free spot with full hookups in exchange for some usually quite enjoyable work. BLM land usually allows you to camp for a couple of weeks before you have to move on. Casinos will usually let you stay for a night or two if you drop a couple of quarters in a machine.

Some campgrounds do offer membership discounts, some don't. RV park owners set rates that allow them to operate profitably so they can make a living. Nothing wrong with that.

The place I long termed in last year was $350 a month. No metered electricity or water. At like $11 a night I don't know how they do it. After I left they raised the rates $50 and the residents about rioted - but no one left cuz there is nowhere cheaper.

(And TBH some of these long term trailers should be in landfills)

I became good friends with the owner and maintained the internet for them. I tried to get him to off a reasonable "long stay" rate and to raise the rates for snowbirds but he didn't see the need. Snowbird season the place is basically sold out for 3-4 months.
