That looks like a great place. My oldest sister got married (at 17) and her son was born there way back in 1973 or so. Dad retired from the AF at Dyess in Abilene. It's been a long time since I've been up that way.
Ed,
I liked the idea of coming back to this Geographic area (Dry-Arid) in 2019. You can have that humidity! We were in San Antonio from 2008-2019 getting that Gulf Air / Humid, right hook of humid. I am currently 90 miles from Abilene. GAFB is here which allows me to obtain TRICARE RX filled at no cost. That is a savings $$ benefit that I am thankful to have near by the house. The RX saving$ we divert directly to Dog Treats!
Brownwood TX mini trip (100 miles from here) will allows us to take out the 4 Legged Kids/ Dogs to get into nature. I desert scaped and Astro-Turf-d here at the Launch Pad/ Back yard. Archie's vegetative
Spray choices are somewhat limited here at the house.
We will have to be on the lookout for Rattlesnake too with temps forecast in the 80F range. Just got to remember I am the visitor in their home.
They have huge Rattle snake Round ups near by annually in Sweet water TX and Big Spring, TX, to this date still, I think? When I was a kid they had them here at the coliseum, as I remember going to one around 12-14 years old at the same place i attended the Rodeo this past weekend.
Back in the day, 1970s, the guy inside the pen with hundreds of snakes I might add, Got on to the ground and slithering feet first into the sleeping bag full of more rattle snakes and zipping up around his neck for the crowd talking about moving slowly and they wont bother you. At the show I went to they had a cobra (Not native to these parts) and the same idiot, gave that thing a kiss. I have an aversion to up close and personal activities with any species of snake, but enjoyed the experience of being there. Funny how some things get branded into your mind for you to re-live vividly, on demand, LOL. I have had some snake spottings at work when I drilled oil wells. They loved that vibration and would seek out the rig if we set up in their area.
Bit off topic, but I am going to Real World Test my 2nd DIY AC Roll Around, install. A 8000 BTU Amazon Purchase that I
Jury Rigged and have never gotten to test in Warm to semi Hot weather. I have a Plan B use for the AC if this turns out to be a NO GO idea. I did a post on that AC install here with pics.
The Weather Forecast is calling for 80-85F range, so good
AC Testing weather in my simple way of thinking. My Aspect has 3 slides, so the outside temp is basically the inside temp give or take a few it seems, LOL. Class C with one 15K AC with 3 Slides should not to seeking Real Hot Camping environments for those looking to make that first purchase, there is a Tip for Ya.
I am placing the AC in the corner where the dining room table slide pops out, close to Ford E450 Window, I cut the Plastic piece with a Dremel to the shape of the Ford Window by making a trace line on construction paper and transferring it to the plastic made like the shape of the Window so it fits into that Groove fully.
The instructions state the AC is suppose to vent on a "mist exhaust" feature. The unit also has a water catch bucket and a hose to route water extracted during the making AC process to cover all the ways to catch the water in various use applications , I guess?
I plan on attaching the clear assy water hose to the port and route out the Slide gasket for good luck as well as the 5" exhaust with adapter tip for main exhaust going out the window also. Not super humid in this area, but it does get Texas HOT in the summer. I can route the water extraction drip hose out the dining slide gasket, so I think I am good with the water run off.
I got a heavy duty 12G, 50 ft extension for the Sole purpose of plugging into the spare 110 on the camp ground Power pedestal.
Took in the Rodeo this weekend, here in Small Town Texas. Got to get out and have some fun soon.
