We're been at the Lake Mead National Recreation area for a few days. Entering the park from Boulder City NV at about 4:45 PM Saturday. One booth open, no workers in sight. We drive through. Next day, same entrance about 1:pM. Attendant walking away from booth turns and says "just go in, we're taking a lunch break".

Today at the visitor center in response to my question re: booth attendees, one of the volunteers says "all the Indians are gone". only the senior staff remains" Guess the senior staff don't work the booths. Hopefully the ensuing lack of revenues will not lead to a park closure.

In the shutdowns I was involved with in Yellowstone, only one kept the park open and that was in winter. No revenue coming in at te gates, and only oversnow traffic could come in. All the visitor centers were closed. We had little issues, mainly overflowing trash.

We were there for a week in December. In and out every day. Only once was there someone in the kiosk.

Bill, this is not due to a shut down. It's because of staffing shortages following the administrations efforts to streamline the Government.
We've driven through there for several years and the gate attendance seems to be very variable.

YEs, me as well, even before the cuts. IMHO, when the cuts came they tended to dismiss the lower levels instead of the upper levels. I upper cut could have saved 2 or 3 on the lowers, but it was the uppers making the decisions.
