Our older Springdale has the Landing Gear switch inside a drivers side compartment. Not the best spot as Wifey cant reach the switch and see the pin plate simultaneously. I'm considering relocating the switch to offer a better view. The original switch is designed to take the full current load of the jack motor. So a coil cord would need to have some heavy gauge wire. Likewise for a remote setup. Or a set of relays.

Anyone here tried to do the same? What was your design or experience?

Thanks in advance

I recently moved our rear stabilizer's extend/retract switch from the driver's side of the rear storage compartment to the passenger side of the same compartment.  Now it's accessible through the passenger side hatch (there's no driver's side hatch to this compartment) and I don't have to take off the bicycles every time we make or break camp.

Aside from fishing the wires it was an easy job.  I used #10 AWG wire and crimp-type quick connectors.  Maybe you could just relocate your switch to give the operator a better line of sight.  Here's one source for a box:  click here

Another option is to put a few 40 amp Anderson Power Poles (These are some nifty connectors you can hook 'em together so they only plug in one way) and run multi wire flex cord, say 10 '. to a box and mount the switch on that. Then you can simply plug in the umbilical and go.

Or a couple of 40 amp Automotive relays properly configured and light weight remote switch.  You need 2 five pole relays.

The motor connects to the two moving lead connections
The "normally closed" is ground
The "normally open" is HOT
The 3 position center return toggle feeds power to ONE or the Other relay if pressed.

My landing gear switch is behind a door on the driver side front of the FW.  I have a level mounted above the switch on the side of the camper.  I can easily see the hitch and level from this location.  Relocate your switch into a box similar to what MSW linked and you should both be happy.

We have a slide hitch that is fussy when aligning. Especially fussy when it comes to elevation.

I like the option of relocating the switch, Which may be the option she will choose.

TIA
