Las Vegas/Henderson Extended Stay Parks?

Hi Everyone!

we are planning on going full time in a few months in the Tri State area. We want to live in NV if possible to avoid the taxes.

Does anyone have any advice on nice RV parks that allow extended stay and have the pools, spas, etc. With all the things I am reading about the parks closing, it makes me worried.

I found one place but I think it was $850 a month plus electricity. YIKES

I just asked the same question and was directed to Sam's Town (yes it's a casino) there is also RV Hitchin' Post and Hidden valley,  and the KOA at Circus Circus... Prices vary, they also vary depending on January or July so call around

HI John,

I just called Desert Sands RV Resort in Henderson (702)565-1945 and they said they are $310 a month, $100 security deposit and you pay the electric. They do take dogs up to 50# and you can permanent park there.

They have laundry, bathrooms with showers and saunas, pool and a convienance store that is closed now due to it being renovated. Which is good because that tells me they are not  planning on closing anytime soon. Some spots have shade. You park on dirt but have a cement patio slab.

You can have 2 vehicles on your spot and you could have a shed if it fits on your lot.

She said they are located outside of all the traffic area and it about 15 m in to Vegas.

Just thought I would post what I foud out.

I looked into the Sam's and that one I think was a 14 day maximum stay so that won't work for us.

Sams has two parks, one is "short term" one "long term" or so they told me when I visited in Jan, short term was sold out so I was Sort of out of luck there.

Tanks for the lead on the park in Henderson, 300/month is right close to utilities here at home so it's not unreasonable

If you don't want to stay in the down town area of Vegas and are willing to go an hour or so away, Parhump has some decent parks. The cost of real estate in Vegas is driving a lot of trailer parks out of business, rapidly. Don't know if you have been to Vegas before but it has changed a lot over the last few years........

Do you know any names of the parks in Parhump? I would rather not live right by Vegas. I would rather be an hour away

I'll check back with Sam's and inquire about long term. See we have 2 large dogs on top of it and a lot of these places only take 20# and under and I have 2 huskies who need to go on the Jenny Craig diet plan

Gee, I can't remember the names except you might want to check "terribles" and another by the name of gold something. I'll try to get some more details for you........

Saddle West was the one I was thinking of. Do a Google search for Pahrump RV and you will see Terribles and Saddle West. Saddle West seemed to be the better park.

Oh, the town is rapidly growing, but still nice. Few Cat houses there, but shouldn't bother the dogs Also a nice casino there

Thanks! I called the Saddle West and they are 324.90 for the first month because they have to charge tax, then after that there is no tax. $1 surcharge per day for electric from now til Sept. They have a pool, laundry, horsehoes, etc. Dogs are allowed.

The cat houses won't bother my dogs (the hairy ones) ! LOL I'll have to get a bigger leash for my husband! LOL

From the research I have done it looks like this is a decent area and the Hospital that they are building should be done soon so then a lot more retirees will find it a better place to stay. There is a Walmart near by so that is good.

Hope it works out well for you, Leilani. Nice area and if you want to go to Vegas it is a short trip. At least that will give you a base to explore around a bit and move on if you need to. It is growing like a weed because of the high prices in Vegas, but it is a little nicer than Hendaerson...my opinion. Not much of a difference between Vegas and Henderson.

Thanks! we have plans to fly out to Nevada and look around in Sept. for  a couple of weeks.  We'll look in NV, CA, and AZ but NV is top on the list so we can avoid taxes. We get killed each year at tax time so that is very appealing to us.

The one draw back we have found is the high cost of license plates in NV but it's better than the taxes we pay here in Ohio to sit in snow and rain.

Have you considered Laughlin, NV? It's just under 100 miles south of LV. New freeway from Searchlight all the way to LV. It's always on my list of stops when going to or from AZ from NCal. The reasons I like it so much is that it is a major Casino town - but not as crowded as LV plus it's right on the CO river. There is a lot of free parking, plus there are memborship parks in the area as well. Actually, the best prices on RV parks are in Bullhead City just across the river. You would find good shopping (Sams Club, Walmarts, and so forth) plus major Casino hotels such as Harrah's.  Here are some pictures I took the last several times I have been there.

Well, Laughlin only has one RV Park at the Riverside. They have clamped down on Dry RV camping and currently reviewing whether to permit it this year. Bullhead is rapidly growing and has traffic problems as well as many others The cost of housing and living is going through the roof and that pulls other costs along with it. It has become a haven for Californians...like Havesu. Davis Camp is across the Laughlin Bridge and has reasonable rates, but is locally considered a "poor camp." We stayed there for a few years and wouldn't recommend it. Searchlight is in the middle of no where and the park is isolated...except for the small town of Laughin and Bullhead. It gets cold there and they can have snow. No shopping.

Also keep in mind that Laughlin does have some special events and in April they have the Motorcycle River Run....60-75,000 bikes and things kind of come to a stand still : Laughlin used to be nice but they are now getting a lot of problems from Vegas. My wife has worked there for several years and now just in the winters. Winters are windy, but no snow to speak of. Check it out for sure, but look at the under belly

For the past several years I have stayed at the Riverside at their weekly rate of $109. or thereabout. Hardly a "going through the roof" rate for a such a location just a short walk to the banks of the Colorado. It may have gone up $10. this spring so that makes it $18 or so vs. $16/night. There are many nice parks w/even lower rates in Bullhead -- some with incredible views from that side of the river.

Is that a bad thing. ???? It's been a haven for RVers from "everywhere" ever since Don Laughlin opened his first motel. Yes, and we Californians "have" found it great haven for many, many, years. The reason it has been a haven is because it's such a great alternative to LV. Can't imagine living as a monthly in any surrounding area to LV such a Pahrump or Henderson when Laughlin is so close.

I don't think anyone has suggested Searchlight or Davis Camp.? Searchlight is just a rest stop between Laughlin and LV. And Davis Camp could hardly be considered typical of Laughlin RV parking. It's "not" a camping town.

Yes, I was there this spring the week before that event. They also have their answer to Reno's, "Hot August Nights" -- plus other events as well. That's how they make their money and stay alive. I actually enjoy most of those kinda events.? Even during the week before the biker event, I became surrounded by bikers. However, they were all nice folk and were careful of how much noise they allowed their bikes to make. I became the Satellite dish guy and helped many of them point their dishes. Of course, I had a bike also -- but it didn't have a motor.?

Correction -- Laughlin "to you" used to be nice. ? What you describe has been Laughlin since Don Laughlin first enticed RVers to his motel on the River. The whole idea was to find a nice place on the River away from LV. It "has" grown ever since and the prices have gone up ever since -- of course they would. However, compared to LV, Laughlin, to me, is still and will remain a much nicer spot for extended stay with pricing exponentially lower.

But as you suggest, one should check it out and decide for themselves. I find it hard to believe, for example, that some actually "like" brussels sprouts and dislike Haagen Dazs Coffee ice cream covered with kiwi fruit and and brandy. Different strokes . . .?

Well Bob, my perspective was from living there for 8 years and with my wife working in one of the casinos. I know several of the security folks and they say that the LA gangs have become a problem the last 2 years...after the Harrah's shootings. Crime is up, but not advertised. We enjoy the biker event and have for 10 years. It has decreased in attendance because of the price gouging done by the locals. Prices get ramped up a week before and don't come down for a week after. Room rates are ridiculous and Harrah's was charging $175 to park in their lot. Competive events are now held in Kingman, Vegas, and Havesu. I do agree that almost all the bikers I have met were good folks. In fact made several friends that way. They also tip well

Laughlin became a magnet for Rver's and they are to blame for the dry camping ban. Motorhomes were dumping black waste into the trash cans Ramada) and the maintenance people got tired of it. Heck, even some of the RVer's used soap in the hot tub....for which they didn't pay. Also they would use showers after hours at the River Palms, and dump waste above Harrah's. Don't get me wrong, I'm an Rver also, but it only takes a few to spoil things for the others. I don't want to keep dwelling on the problems of Bullhead/Laughllin but it isn't what it used to be.... My wife tells horror stories as well. Meth labs in the hotels, stabbings, etc.

Bullhead has a major problem and crime is rising. The cost of basic housing is about 5 times what it was a few years ago. The infra structure is stretched and they still haven't decided on a new bridge location yet ( Nevada's fault). The RV parks are not that great. We know of folks in the Mirage and the Bullhead park and of course there was the big drug raid last year.

They keep good PR and the casinos don't let much bad news out. But if you take a close look, things are not what they were and the S. California problems are flooding in.

But yes, different strokes for different folks. I opt for something else

About the crime rate....

Two things attract criminals, Crowds and money.  Now in the bad old days (And yes they were bad) when the folks who ran the casions were known to make offiers which could not be refused,  Petty criminals and punks tended to shy away from them because... Well,,,... You might say they were outclassed.  I mean, today's Las Vegas criminal has to worry about "John Law" coming and putting the habius Grabbus on them (Tossing them in jail).  Then they get to go before a judge and some get lucky and lie their way out of prison terms.

Back then things were simpler,,, Some punk came in and made trouble,  nobody ever heard from him again (Unless somebody got lucky and dug up his body that is)

Of course... The folks running the casinos were another matter,,, But for the most part they would not bother you and me much.

I'm not suggesting we go back to those days though,  Far too many folks like you and me got caught in the crossfire as it were,  Kind of messy.

Today, in theory at least, those folks, and days, are gone from Vegas, or at least not nearly as bold in any case, Today we have law and order.  We also have way more people (Fastest growing area in the country) and we still have lots and lots and lots of photos of dead presidents floating about.

Criminals of the punk kind, the kind that are "Equal oppertunity annoyers"  Well they like crowds and money, so they are going to "Follow the money" and the people and go to Vegas.

Of course,,, Some of them still run afowl of the old time bosses, and when this happens,,, Well, I can't say it's been nice knowing the criminal, but at least he won't bother me again.

The problem is... The more people, the more criminals, it's that simple Crooks hide in a crowd. and most of them have the ability to move quickly through a crowd (In my youth I could do that, today moving quickly is not as easy as it was then, crowd or no crowd) so they flock there.

However the question is should we let that worry us (Worry means destory our pleasure) or should we relagate it to the level of "proper concern" (Which means we take some steps to protect ourselves)

Here is a though... Many parks will prohibit truly big dogs (IE: Rottwhilers)  However not one park that I know of will prohibit Concrete Fido... Concrete Fido is a statue of a big dog (Lab or Rott) in full attack post, Motion detector eyes and a digitally recorded snarl add to the illusion,,, not to mention the quanity of brown in the burglar's shorts.

In general I agree and think a lot of problems come from over population. Sure wish I had been born about 100 years ago One reason I like the small towns of the West is that most folks are decent and those who aren't are driven out of town. I'm not against gambling and occassionally do a bit myself, but the casinso are magnets for the undesireables. Something in the human psyche about gambling, drinking, smoking, and being crooked. Seems like it all comes together in some places. Yes, Vegas has changed but there are still bodies dumped in the desert. Heck even ole Ted Binion got his. There was an article in Esquire magazine a few years back talking about Laughlin being the dumping ground for murdered bodies. Didn't read it myself but a lot of local talk.

Interesting topic...........maybe the next frontier on Mar's will be utopia ;D

Yes, you have a point there, In vegas stuff that is, or at least was, quite frankly illegal in other cities is licensed and displayed openly.  Hence the well named company "Sin City Hookers" (It's a tow truck company btw)

Many places and many people consider gambling, drinking, smoking to be sins, so is being crooked

And then there is the point I made about the bad old days when casinos were often run by "the Family" or by people with very strong family connections. People still equate the casinos with those families, and thus crime.

Me, Oh, I'll play the occasional 1, 5, 10 or 20, but that's my limit

Course one day I sat down in Circus Circus dropped in a five and when I pushed the cash out button it started spitting quarters,,,, My wife thought it would never stop,,,, 95 dollars later, it did
