She found herself on her hands and knees, unable to stand up, and all the other tourists walking over and around her.

On my last trip to visit Jerry and Ardra in LV, I did the Startosphere hotel and while there saw that very thing happen. I believe I posted here once before how shocked I was to find the top observation deck to be open air with only two separated low rails protecting the edge and a 900 foot drop. Several suicides have happened there.

Anyway, as I was moving over to take a pic of the "insanity" ride, I saw a woman on her hands and knees crawling along in total panic -- asking her companion to please help her back inside. Here again are a few pictures I took while on the observation deck. Note how far below the top of the Statosphere that the top of the Eiffel Tower is. You can see it sticking up behind the hotel just to the left of the Strip about half way up the strip.

Glad you like your roof mount. The only advantage I found with a tripod over the roof mount was that if in a dry parking situation (such as QZ) one does not have to break down the dish while away from their site. Of course, the set up upon return is very easy as the elevation does not change and the azimuth only needs a slight realignment.

Hi Bob,

Terry B. and I did both the roller coaster and hot shot two years ago. Quite a ride! Haven't done the Insanity and probably won't. :) Keep that photo you have of the MGM Grand. Pat told me they imploded it last week! Can't believe they'd do that.

Jim,
I hope Jerry F. jumps in here as I don't think it was the MGM Grand that was imploded but I can't recall the name of the one that was.

Betty

The last one imploded was the Boardwalk. I think MGM is going to use the property for something. MGM Grand isn't on any hit list for possible implosion. Tropicana, across the street from MGM, has been on the hit list for years.

Hi Betty,

I was really surprised when she said they had done away with it. I can believe it was another hotel.

Hi Wendy,

Thanks for the info. I can believe the Tropicana is marked to go. It's not nearly as glitzy as the surrounding properties.

Jim, I am amazed at those doing those rides -- whereas you and Terry get line with the other kids and ride them 'til they are told they have to go home now. I was pleased with myself that I could even walk around taking pictures from the outside observation deck.

I don't think the MGM is on the list. I use the Las Vegas Casino Death Watch List to get the latest. It's a fun site:

Scroll up from the list for the latest news and pictures. Just about every casino of any importance is covered here.

Bob,

I was amazed at myself as well! ;D I also did the NYNY rollercoaster with Liliane and Terry's DIL. Now that was quite a ride! Glad it wasn't on top of the tower!!!!

I'll have to take a look at that website. Thanks.

If you want a ride for us more mature kids, try The Drive! experience across Paradise from the Sahara.  for $10 you can make two runs on any of 3 courses they have there; a performance course, a normal off-road course and a Hummer-only course.  Of course, they only have GM vehicles, but it's a rush never then less! see http://www.thedrivevegas.com/ for more info.

By the way, they make you take a breathalyzer test for entry!

Al,

Checked the site but couldn't get to the description of the off road track. Wonder if it's any worse than what we do in QZ and Moab??? ;D

Nah probably not anywhere near what we have been on since the Hummer 2/3 couldn't follow us on some of the trails we have been on. ;D ;D

I would expect that track would be pretty tame since they don't want any law suits. :) :) You sure are correct that the Hummers can't follow us. I'm surprised most of us get through since the trails are so narrow. Still remember coming off the Ridge and dead ending in the dry wash! Had to hike across the desert to find the trail! Now it's so well worn one couldn't go astray. ;D ;D

I always remember the day we took the Nathans down the wash from dripping springs.  Sam came up and said "Piece of Cake" you went to look at the next rough spot and Terry said he just knew we were going to take them on down the wash.  I don't think Terry will ever forget Sam's comment either.

The Ridge is getting so well worn that it may not be driveable next year. There were a couple of areas this year that the roadside erosion was so bad that there was little room on the road for 4 wheels

Ron,

Yes, I remember Terry's reaction, too. ;D ;D That was a fun trip. It's always more fun the first time even when your heart is racing a mile a minute, like the first trip on The Ridge.

That's bad news, Bernie. I'd hate to have that erode so much we couldn't make it. Not many places to turn around and I sure wouldn't want to back out of there!!! Guess we'll need someone with an ATV to make the run prior to sending all the cars up there.

Or send Jim and Tarry out there on their motorcycles to check it out  ;)

Yeah, yeah, I heard all that before from Ron.? :)? The reality is that the H3 is smaller than the Grand Cherokee!

And here's a link to some photos I took at The DRive.? The smaller hills you see are for the Tahoes, Yukons, and escalades.? Some folks do, however wimp out and take the Hummers on that course.

Hi Al,

If you look at mogul 1 it is less severe than The Ridge. I hope you get a chance to try some of the trails in QZ. It can be fun. ;D
