Last Movie Seen in a Theater

I think the title was Save the Children? The one where they save kids from trafficing. The closest theater at this point is a multi about 38 miles away. The one before that was the latest Top Gun. My hard of hearing wife says the movies are too loud. I like loud stuff, but she was right.

Earplugs help a LOT, but in some venues even that isn't enough.

... all new movies will have to be shown in cinemas for a certain amount of time before being available for streaming. Not sure if thats true....

Theater release first is pretty much the norm but of course with some exceptions. Most new releases are theater only for a period of time (45-90 days even) before being available on streaming services.

But lately, not all follow this scenario with some using a shorter window and a few even releases simultaneously-- theater and streaming at the same time.

I think the goal is for theaters to rake in those huge profits on popcorn and soft drinks before I can watch anything in my own living room.

I hadn't been to a movie theater since pre-covid but last month I went with my sister and niece to see the new Tron at the local movie house. Wasn't bad except the sound was cranked up to 12+ making it distorted to the point where it was hard to even understand the dialog. I complained on my way out and got one of those "OK, Boomer" sighs in return.

It's been so long I don't recall. Our alternative is a 75" Samgung OLED which, except for the remote, has been a wonderful improvement over our old rear screen projector TV.

I don't recall. I remember going to see The Hobbit and got annoyed that they added so much fluff, that I didn't bother to see the rest of them. My wife went to see the second Wicked. I didn't.

Mike and I (and Ralph) go a couple of times a month, depending on what’s playing. Last one was Project Hail Mary. We like seeing movies in theaters and love the popcorn.

Project: Hail Mary. Went with Wife and two granddaughters. I wasn't real impressed, but maybe cause I fell asleep at the beginning, those chairs are more comfortable than mine and the fact that Wife has to be there so she can see all the previews. It must be because we only go to movies that is appropriate for the grandkids.

The last movie I saw in theater was Titanic, and was one those ‘super max’? style theaters. I have seen maybe 6 or 7 movies in theaters in my whole life.

Ah, Drive-ins.
When I was a kid, my parents went to the Drive-in theater, every week, and took me along. I have memories of a lot of those flicks. Once I looked up a number of them as a curiosity and was shocked to see that I remember seeing some that played back when I was two, and three years old.
Even into the late '60s we went to the drive-in every week.
Later, I held that tradition, but switched to indoor theaters, as drive-ins tended to cater to a "Different crowd."

Traveling through Texas, recently, I noticed that several small towns still have Drive-ins, and many of them seem to be catering to the traditional films, again.
I may have to schedule so that I can take a few in along the way.

There's just one drive-in left about an hour from here that I know of. There was one in Rome, NY, where I grew up that I went to a bunch of times as a kid. About 15 years ago, a car dealer bought the land and was planning to demolish it. There was a large public opposition so they caved under pressure, built the dealership around it and let it operate normally. It only lasted another couple of years and was closed/demolished due to low attendance. Everyone cried "No, you can't demolish it"...and then didn't go see any movies there - go figure.

My 1st memory of a drive in theater was when I was about 4-5 yrs old... My dad had a bad stomach and drank a lot of milk... So he would always bring a bottle ((early 1950s) to the theater with us... 1/2 way thru the movie my mom told my dad to take us boys to the bathroom... He told us to pee in the empty milk bottle... A little later you can guess what happened... Yep, not taking his eyes off of the movie, he reached back and grabbed the milk bottle and took a big swig.... After over 70 years this still makes me laugh... Poor Pops...
