Hi - brand new Newbie here! I thank you in advance for any advice you can give me and my wife. We are looking to buy a new or newer travel trailer 24-27 feet long that can be towed behind a 1/2 ton truck (which we don?t have yet). We?d like it to be light weight so it?s safe and easy to tow but understand that it?s difficult to build light and build to last at the same time. I apologize if this has been discussed ad nauseam before but I would like to get some opinions on what are the best new light weight trailers that will last a long time when used a lot. We plan to keep it for quite a while and may go full time with it. If possible we'd like to spend under $25,000 for it.

I just bought a 30' Palomino Travel Trailer new in 2012.  It's an "Ultra-Lite"....aluminum frame and fiberglass body.  I'm very impressed with the build quality thus far.  Tows easily for something this size.  It quiet inside and feels very solid.  Best of all, it had a floorplan I couldn't live without.  I paid $23,700 out the door.  It has a queen Serta bed, a second outdoor kitchen, a large slide, power awning, and the biggest bathroom I've ever seen in a travel trailer.

Aluminum frames are lighter than wood and more structurally rigid....but they do come at a cost premium over wood.

NOW....watch your weights.  Even my "Ultra-lite" weighs in at a hefty 7700 lbs gross.  Here in the mountains, that's 3/4 ton truck territory.  Pay attention to gross weight, not dry weight.
