Looking for quiet 110 volt small compartment fans

I recently suffered through frozen pipes...with no damage thank goodness. My solution was a simple one...crank the heat up in the 5th wheel and open up all the cabinet doors and remove several access panels, found the place where it was frozen and I put a small fan pushing warm heated air into the compartment that froze.

Now as a more permanent solution I want to install on a switch 3 small 4 inch vent fans (think computer / home theater cabinet fans) into the access panels and when the temperature drops I can turn these fans on and circulate warm air in those compartments.

I have been able to locate 12 volt fans, but not too many 110 volt fans.

I was wondering if anyone here has used this same solution and which fans they chose.

Thanks

Jim

I would use the 12vdc biscuit fans.  Most likely if you have 120 vac available, your convertor will keep the batteries charged.

if you go to some of the electronic stores, NOT consumer ones like Radio Shack, you should find 120 volt computer fans of various sizes.  The 120 volt ones tend to be bigger than the 12 volt ones though.

I would use the 12 volt ones as they typically can be found for around $5 and the charger for the batteries and 12 volt source for the coach should have no problem running a few  small fans as most draw less that 1 amp and usually much less.

You can search for AC muffin fans and find numerous sources.
Example Grainger has a 105CFM AC powered muffin fan that operates with 48dBa noise (quite low) for about $30.00 each.
I noticed that DC powered muffin fans with the same performance are available in various places for about $5.00.
I agree with Molaker...use the DC powered ones; they are cheaper and won't put a real dent in your battery power consumption.

Thanks for the instant input...just went to Grainger and found several for under $10.00 that will be my solution...I will go with 12 volt and put them on a switch on my panel so I can turn them on when needed.

Appreciate the response...the muffin fan search gave me the answers I was looking for.

Digikey Electronics is another source - see http://www.digikey.com/product-search/en/fans-thermal-management/fans-ac/1179729?k=120v%20fan

I scavenge 120vac diameter, 120 mm fans from computer power supplies when they fail - usually have a couple lying around in my shop, just in case.

You can take it one step farther and add a thermal cube to the ac outlet you plug the power supply for the fans. by doing this, you can leave the switch on and the thermal cube will will power the outlet at 32 degrees (or about) and turns it off at 45 degrees. You can leave your RV and don't have to worry about getting back to turn the switch on.

120 volt "Muffin" fans can be found at telectronics supply houses, I think Radio Shack USED to carry them back when they had walls covered with parts, but alas, not so much now that they are cell phone shack.
