We are new to RVing, live just north of Richmond, VA, and are trying to find a perfect place to camp with our "new to us" 22' TT for a few days.  Here's the wish list:

  1.  Quiet park with water and electric hookups (no need for pool, tennis, or other resort-type ammenities).  State parks work well.
  2.  Hiking trails nearby (we were backpackers for years).
  3.  Outlet shopping mall nearby (for the wife).
  4.  Craft breweries nearby (for me).
  5.  Within 4-hour drive from Richmond.

Any suggestions?

There's a number of Virginia State Parks near you that would probably fill the bill.

Pick one and head out :)

We stayed at Lake Anna state park this summer. I don't know about the outlet shopping, but it's a clean park with plenty of hiking trails.

we have stayed at a number of VA state parks over the years and found them to be beautiful, well run & clean. We  don't do the breweries, but I'm sure you can see if Shenandoh River, Dothan & Fairy Stone among others are near enough to satisfy. Have fun!

I'm so sorry. Looking for the perfect spot in VA is a mistake. The perfect spot is in Oregon!  ;D  Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Touche!  It sure does seem like there are many more and better options for RV's out west.  But, alas, we live on the east coast.  "Do the best you can with what you have where you are."

My favorite camping spot in Virginia is at the Assateague National Seashore.

I have no idea if it contains all the things you are looking for but the beauty of the place is off the end of the scale. Wild horses too.
