My wife and I are moving up from an 18ft Hybrid Surveyor to possibly an Outdoors 260RLS (GVWR 11000) or an Arctic Fox 28F (GVWR 10400). A bit concerned about pulling this with my 2014 Ram 2500 6.4. I doubt if I would carry max load ever but I like to be prepared. We plan on 8-10 trips per year with a big one up to Alaska in 2 years. Should we look for lighter trailer? We like traveling off the beaten path a whole lot. I appreciate any helpful input.

Most 3/4 ton trucks like your Ram 2500 can handle a 10,000 lb travel trailer, but you need to check the numbers to verify.

You can look at the basic numbers for your truck in the 2014 Ram towing guide at https://www.ramtrucks.com/assets/towing_guide/pdf/2014_RAM.2500.Towing.Specs.pdf

That will give you a GCWR (max combined truck & trailer weight) and an approximate max trailer weight. The latter is for the basic model of that truck, without options.  You can also verify your trucks actual payload (cargo) capacity by looking at the sticker on the driver door jam, usually labeled Tire & Loading.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

We tow our 10,000 lbs trailer and it is a dream.  Get the best fit for you and check out the CCC (payload) from the yellow label on the truck door to ensure the truck can carry the weight.

We are pretty full with stuff and we are not maxed out.

Let us know how you get on.

Jackie, what do you get for gas milage when you are not towing?

Our average last year was 10.6 including towing.  We did 15,400 miles of which we think around 6K was towing.  Steve reckons it is about 15mpg when not towing.  We do a reasonable amount of off roading.  I am not confident I got all of the receipts so the mileage may be a bit higher.

Hope that helps....
