Loud Live Music at Cedar City RV Park

please teach these people how to sing at the Best Western in Cedar City? They have live music here--if such noise can be called such!

I usually announce to the crowd that when I woke up that morning I was eager for the evening events as I wanted to sing and entertain in the worst way.

Sadly, I then demonstrate exactly what I had forecasted...

I suppose no one is interested in listing to real music any more. What do I consider "real music" ... how about Mitch Miller and the men's quire he conducted. Now that is singing! Or, the old fashioned barber shop quartets. Yes, I'm showing my age. I can't stand the "stuff" they call "music" today!

With much of it I agree with you, but I go long past Mitch Miller's choir, barber shop, etc. Most classical music, nost "traditional country," a lot of folk music, crooners (Sinatra, Crosby, Perry Como, et al), Big Band, some of the fifties-style rock and roll, a lot of bluegrass and much more. But the intentionally distorted musical instruments (fuzz tones, etc.) and the harsh vocals, the vulgar lyrics, etc. are hard to take.

I'd note, too, that quite a bit of the Pop/Rick/etc. stuff is more a problem with the performances than with the music itself, since often the same songs by crooners or on easy listening media turn out to be quite musical. Rap and its like are impossible for me to listen to for more than three-five seconds, and I've been known to walk out of establishments that have it on their speaker systems. Much of the pop stuff I find I can tolerate for short periods in a store IF it's not too loud, if it's at a background listening level, but too loud and I'm outa there.

But it is hard to believe what they call music can get this bad.

And why is it that the worst it sounds the louder it is?

I like lots of different music, but am somewhat biased toward the stuff we listened to growing up, which included a lot of southern rock.
RIP Frank Beard, drummer for ZZ Top. Just a little 3 man band from Texas, proving you don't need a bunch of chords to rock the house.

Everyone I grew up with is dying... I am as old as my dad... Except Keith RIchards. He'll outlive all of us.

Real music is real musicians (And that includes singers) playing real instruments (or voices) un modified by electronics (So much today they "Auto tune" the voice)

What you listed, Classic Rock, Classical orchestra. and more.

I joke about making "Beautiful Music" with 3 Beauty queens (And I will add about a dozen other folks) One of the lovely ladies sat down at the piano and the rest of us gathered around and added our voices. That's real music.

I think I've seen the Ozark Mountain Daredevils about 11 times. Supposedly none of them could read a lick of music.
My friends and I won a talent contest at the community College back in the day, performing Chicken Train.

You will notice I made no mention of reading music
That is not required. In fact many perform strictly from memory no sheet music in front of them.
That may (or not) Include me depending on what I'm singing Choral I have the sheet in front of me though I do not admit to being able to read music (no where near as well as Darling Daughter who has a music degree (2 actually).

Solo I'm Normally singing from memory.

Am I the only Jazz fan here? I like Jazz from the (later) bop, hard bop and post bop eras (mid 1950's to 1960's) along with Latin Jazz and Bossa Nova . I also like some early Rock, early traditional Country, Country/Southern Rock, and a lot of roots type singer songwriter stuff. Pretty much everything except Rap and Classical. My collection numbers over 10,000 tracks, much of it on CD and all of it digitized in several locations.

I forgot Blues. I was heavily into Blues when I discovered Jazz which I never thought I'd like but it has a way of growing on you. I like to say I like everything from John Lee Hooker to Johnny Cash to John Coltrane.
