Low profile electric Jack??

Hey folks, my electric jack just bit the dust. I am replacing it with what I can guess as a similar Lippert electric Jack. However if I could shave about 2 inches off the powerhead… Or mount it sideways, I can get the tailgate down. This would tremendously help out with getting the generator in and out of the truck!

Does anyone make a low profile or side mounted electric jack so that the tailgate would drop?

You may be able to turn the jack head 90º. I saw one done and the tailgate cleared the head.

Thanks! I just found a video of that, looks like you have to tap the holes.

I wonder if the holes would line up to just shift the whole mounting base plate and not tap the top mounting holes for the power head?

Never mind… I am remembering my geometry now… It’s a 60° angle. Rotating that 90° would make it very off!!

Do they make a longer shank for your receiver? I have the Husky Centerline and I just ordered the 14" shank. It gives me a couple extra inches when lowering the tailgate.

The video would work for some jacks, but not all of them. If all that you need is 2" then a receiver extension should work. I got one like this for my truck/trailer to solve the same problem. Just make sure that it is rated for the weight that you will be pulling.

My concern would be how much more stress that would put on the hitch. Even a couple of inches could make a difference.

It could be a problem if you are pushing the hitch limits but would be no different than if the trailer tongue were to be longer. In my case, I was towing a travel trailer with a GVWR of 3800# with a 2500 diesel truck whose hitch was rated to tow up to 20K and a tongue weight of 2000#. (class 5 hitch)

Your truck doesn,t even know it's back there:sleep:

We replaced the Casita trailer lame OEM hitch jack with an Ultimate Trailer Jack rated for a 2000 pounds lift capacity and a 3000 pounds support capacity to enable easier and faster operation without needing to use any blocks whatsoever. This innovative hitch jack is faster and takes less effort than using a powered hitch jack, doesn't drain the battery and is less prone to failure.

More photos and details of this Casita trailer modification and all our other many Casita trailer modifications may be found by Googling our trailer name if interested.

Don got it right, you would want a longer shank, not a kludge extension.

Any brand of shank would work, all of them have the same 2 inch square vertical bar and the same 1-1/4 hole spacing, it's just a matter of receiver size and shank rating.

Many jacks have heads that can be repositioned. I think even the Lippert jacks now have the holes threaded, but it's no big deal to do that if it's not. Probably one of the best tongue jacks, and I think the only USA made brand is Barker. Their heads can be repositioned.

When i had my grand design trailer, rotating the head was very simple and it gave me just enough room to fully lower the tailgate on my 2020 F-150.
