M&G brake light shows when brakes are on

The brake lights don't light unless the brakes are applied, so if the dash light doesn't go on then no brakes.

That's not what this discussion was about. The object is to detect/confirm that air pressure is present and being applied to the M&G air cylinder. I'm sure your system works fine for BrakeBuddy-type systems, but it won't tell an M&G user if they have/don't have air pressure.

BTW Jerry's light won't come on unless the brakes are applied either  ;D

Sure it would, no air pressure, no brakes, no light.  I don't care WHY the system has failed, only that it has, and that's what my light does.

The brake lights on the Burb will come on with or without the air line connected. That's why your system won't detect loss of air. As I said, it's a neat way of doing it for pedal-operated boxes such as BrakeBuddy, but not what we were talking about.

Sounds like a weak spot in the design to me :)

LOL Ned, that's why there's a market for the light that Jerry bought. I wonder how long it will take M&G to build in into  their installation kit.

Then the M&G doesn't light the brake lights when it applies the brakes?

Ned,

It depends on the car it's attached to.  If the car has a pressure switch to activate the brake light then the light will come on when the M&G applies pressure.  If the car has a switch on the brake pedal then there is no light because the M&G does not connect to the brake pedal.

Ok, I understand how it works, Phil.  The addon light still seems like a complicated (and expensive) way to solve a simple problem.

Expensive, maybe, but certainly more than the $2.99 that was quoted  ;D  Complicated? Heck, what could be simpler? If there's a simpler way to detect presence or loss of air pressure than with a pressure sensor/switch I'd sure like to hear about it.

I recall the price was more like $99.  For that I get a radio transmitter and receiver and all the cables, not just a $3 lamp :)  And the switch still doesn't tell you if the brakes are really being applied.

I was talking about this price that I was teasing John about.

No more and no less than hooking up to the brake light circuit.  One tells you if the master cylinder is being depressed and the other tells you if the brake pedal is depressed. About the same result if there's a fluid leak.  Maybe there's a need for brake fluid pressure monitoring  ;D

Call your patent attorney, quick.  Can you build it for $2.99? :D

I was going to let Bernie market it as an add-on to PP :D

That's Bernie's challenge  ;D

LOL Bernie, that used to be the philiosophy of a lot of companies I can think of.

Ned,

I don't see a lot of people rushing to add the light.  In fact, I'll bet there is at least one person who believes that the light is not necessary.  But, in this forum sometimes the guys who get the new toys/tools first cause some of us to play catch up.  ;D

Phil,

I wish my toy budget was as high as some people's :)

ALL,

Wow want a discussion.  I tested it by using my air compressor and applying first 20 lbs and then 80 lbs of air pressure.  The light turned on perfectly both times and to satisfy the LONG discussion I started the MDX and the brakes were FIRMLY applied.  It would NOT move an inch.  I love it and, for the record, cost is no object where safety is concerned.  I want all my remaining years to be GOOD ones!
