Hello! I’m new here and used a different forum that’s been shut down. A couple friends suggested this forum, so here goes!

I’m starting to plan our long summer camping trip which will be in early August.

We’ve been all over the north east coast area except for Rhode Island. So we’re planning on going to the Maine (we’ve been to Bar Harbor years ago) and then to Rhode Island.

I’m looking for suggestions of areas to stay with lots of outdoor adventure and tourist stuff to do. I wouldn’t mind staying in Bar Harbor again since we enjoyed it last time, but Maine is pretty big so I’m looking for input as far as other possible areas to stay.

Rhode Island is obviously tiny, but we’ve never been there so I’m looking for input on where to stay and what to do there, as well as day trips with 90 minutes. We’ll probably do a day trip to Boston and such as well.

Also we’re taking the camper (36’ TT) so any suggestions on full hookup campgrounds are welcome too.

Any help is appreciated! Thanks.

you could always make a stop in Freeport to visit LL Bean. (y) They also have free overnight RV parking. While I find them a bit expensive, their outlet store had some real bargains.

I am from RI. We used to stay at the Charlestown Breachway, right on the coast, but…. no hookups. However, walk right onto the beach. Reservations via Reserve America. Also right nearby is Fishermans St Pk, has hookups, very close to some great beaches.

Newport and the mansions are fun, but likely have to stay in Middletown. I don’t remember the name, but my folks told me it was nice. Hickory ?? northern part of the state, full hookup and very treed. Food, great, seafood, real Italian if you like. Then there are the pretty much RI only treats, A cabinet. basically same as a milk shake in other areas, but typically in RI a milk shake is milk, syrup and whipped frothy.
