Hello everyone. I haven't been on the forum for some time. DH and I are in our mid-70's, and are not full timers, but we have had some great travels over the years! We have traveled and camped for 40+ years, beginning with a tent, graduating to a pop-up, then to a HiLo (which we loved!) then to a 30 ft. TT before we purchased our first fifth wheel a few years ago...and now (I think) our final fifth wheel. After traveling from central Texas last month, we tossed around downsizing to a Class B motor home. The highway conditions we "unforgiving" which made us question whether we wanted to continue pulling a large RV...but after trying a couple of Class B's out, we decided we might have a few more years in a fifth wheel before we downsize or hang up the keys, so we will persevere. Sooo, instead of downsizing, we upsized! (I know!). Anyway, we brought our new Cougar 316RLS fifth wheel home Friday, Valentine's Day...upgrading from our much-enjoyed Cougar 29RLI. (The 316 is much the same layout, but a little more storage and a larger bedroom...and 3 ft. longer.) The first thing we need to do is replace the mattress (70"x80"). Since it is on an east/west slide that extends about 2 ft., I'm trying to figure the best fit and weight for the mattress, but I can't find the weight of the current mattress and I don't want to exceed that weight by too much. Does anyone know where I find the information on the mattress in the RV? Thanks for your input!

Look at a Sleep Number queen Mattress. Not heavy at all. If you have storage space under the bed, this mattress is may be what you’ll need.

If you have 2 scales and 2 people you can weigh both people then weigh again holding the mattress. That will give you the weight of the mattress.

We looked at sleep number beds about a year ago and passed on them cause they didnt have a mattress that you could set up without connecting it to the internet. We went with a purple mattress instead but it isnt light

I just purchased one and did not need the internet. We have a remote for it.

Hummm...sounds like an interesting experiment! May try that!

We recently replaced our mattress with a Zinus mattress, we slept in one at an Airbnb and it was so comfortable DW wanted one. We both really like it and are sleeping much better. Don't forget to get new pillows.

We just bought a mattress for our TT. Ours goes North South check the measurement. East-West for yours may need to watch not all mattress are the same. Most are 6-8''by 60 width, its the length that will catch you up. Ours was a short queen (75''). A std queen is 80'' length. We bought ours from Amazon it weighs 32.6 lbs. We got the 6''

Consider a quality pillow top cover for your mattress, a good one can make all the difference. We used one on the boat that made a huge difference and did the same when we got into RVing.

Then i guess the salespeople in pueblo dont know enough about their product
I need to make a correction. I called the store and they said I would not need WiFi. All I need is a cell phone with Bluetooth. You would need this in order to pair the remote to the bed. Anyone interested in a sleep number bed, I would recommend you call a store and speak to someone directly

that wasnt a sarcastic comment. It looks like the folks in pueblo didnt know what they were talking about. They specifically told me every mattress they sold required to be connected to the internet to set up. I told them that i wouldnt buy any mattress that required that but 3 of them still insisted it was true.

I never owned one so can only go by what they told me.

Was also told that none at the pueblo location came with a remote and i needed to use a snartphone. I wont keep my phone in my bedroom when sleeping so that was another showstopper for me. Maybe that info was wrong too, but it worked out. I paid a lot less money for a different brand and it is the most comfortable mattress i ever owned

Wow...32.6 lbs. is a great weight for an upgrade! We found one that we really like in the exact size we need, but the weight is 100 lbs. so I'm still trying to find the weight on the current mattress. It doesn't seem to be in any of the specs.

Here's my suggestion on a new mattress for you new camper.... whatever brand you have in your house, get the same one for your camper. (unless the one in your house is horrible too).

We had Serta's for years and years and years, both in the house and the camper. Loved them. Price is good, good quality mattresses, and easy to find a store that sells Serta's. They are a time-tested, dependable, durable mattress that doesn't weigh a ton.

Fast forward, my son got a Helix for his bedroom (he lives at home with us.... long story) .... and he swapped out his childhood Serta mattress for a Helix. (not cheap .. no! no! no!). But wow!

We ended up swapping out the original mattress in our Montana High Country after a year with a Helix. It's been in the camper for over 5 years now. It's still a marvelous (very heavy) mattress.... and again .... if you are looking for something in-expensive .... well .... this one is NOT it.

My advise.... whatever you have in your house, put the same brand in your camper.

Exactly what we talked about last night. Our home mattress is due to be replaced soon anyway. The last few years we've noticed our requirements for comfort have changed somewhat and we don't want to "skimp" on this decision! We will check out the Helix. I think we definitely need to stay with the current RV size which is 70x80 (for the RV) and trying to stay at a decent weight. Great tips...thanks!

The shipping weight of our 10" king Zinus was 67 lbs. Look for mattresses that offer a free in home trail.

Helix has an RV King - 72x80.

That might be a starting place on "size".

Here's a chart, it's kind of the standard in sizes. Hope this helps you out.
