Members generally said melted insulation can result from a loose, corroded, or otherwise high-resistance connection without necessarily tripping a breaker, while others noted that the Atwood wiring layout made a 12V harness meltdown as described seem unusual. There was agreement that seeing the replaced parts would have helped, and members also suggested the water heater’s 12V relay circuit may be protected by a fuse in the load center rather than the larger pop-out 12V breakers. The issue remained unresolved because the failed parts were not examined, but the owner was satisfied with the repair and planned to inspect the 12V service panel later.
