Memphis Tennessee campsite?

We'll be headed to Memphis Tennessee from our current spot in Nashville in the next few days. Looking for a good campsite where we'll be able to explore & enjoy the sights & sounds of the City. We're traveling in our Class A (34') and for this trip prefer a site with full hookups. Any suggestions much appreciated.

Also suggestions for things to do & see in that area are also welcome. Especially enjoy historic type sites during the day and perhaps some "local" music venues in the evening.

Have you considered Tom Sawyer RV Park in West Memphis, Arkansas?  Just across the river.  We enjoyed watching the barge traffic on the river.  Seeing the ducks at the Peabody Hotel is something unusual.  We enjoyed barbecue at Williams Barbecue in West Memphis.

We stayed there a couple of years ago. Just make sure you call before you go. The Mississippi river overflows it's banks quite often and it floods the entire campground. Not much at the CG but like Shelia said, the view of the barges going up/down river is interesting.

It seems that Tom Sawyer has good reviews from folks who've stayed there. We were headed there one time and were put off by the surrounding neighborhood. We turned around, crossed the river, and stayed at the Graceland RV Park. Everyone I've talked with says we should have kept going to Tom Sawyer. Rene is correct that the park sometimes floods when the river is in flood stage.

The Graceland RV Park was fine, and convenient for my other half to visit Graceland (across the street).

We enjoyed Tom Sawyer RV Park. We visited Graceland and the RV park there is safe enough but it appeared to be just a place to park while visiting Graceland.

We have stayed at Tom Sawyer a couple of times. Nice park. Had a bit of an electrical problem with the pedestal on one stay, but other than that, we would stay there again. It's across the river in West Memphis, Arkansas. It's not too far from the bridges, though.

I haven't been back to Memphis for about 33 years, but at that time The Peabody Hotel, Beale Street, and Graceland were the major places not to miss.

We always stay at Tom Sawyer when we are in that area.  It's quite secluded from the surrounding area.  But, it's near enough to downtown Memphis to make it a good home base for sight seeing.

Very nice park and a vast improvement over our private site in Nashville which was very noisy and cramped. Tons of room here given the season-- less than a dozen RVs registered. Haven't decided how long we'll stay exactly but we paid for the first four nights and total, with discounts including tax, was $54. Not hard to take!

We had read some review where campers complained about things such as nearby factories, airport noise, trains, and offensive odors. What we found was that these factories were well out of sight and some distance away through pretty dense woods. Never heard a plane and the occasional train was off in the distance and not annoying at all. But we did wake up this morning to a pretty strong, unpleasant odor! Not sue where that was coming from and at the moment it's pretty much gone away. Hopefully that won't be a big ongoing issue as otherwise we're very content here and the critters absolutely love the place.

That does seem to be "THE" issue with this particular park. I wonder what they do when the water rises and I assume they have to tell the existing campers they have to leave?
