Since I quit smoking after 41 years, it has been:

1488 days, or
128,563,200 seconds, or
2,142,720 minutes, or
35,712 hours, or
212 weeks and 4 days, or
48 months 27 days, or
4 years 27 days

Still pops into my mind once in a while that I'd like one, but I ignore the urge and it's gone in a minute. Assuming the price of a carton has not gone up since I quit, I calculate that I've saved about $22,000 since then.

But that was before filters. It's not the paper and tobacco, it's the filters that last forever.
You never see a "roach" lying on the road.
We still had to field strip them after filters were popular. The remaining tobacco was spread on the ground to make sure it was out, while the filter and paper were pocketed until they could be properly disposed of. The filters could also be used as basic hearing protection, so it wasn't unusual to have several in your pocket if you routinely were exposed to loud noises.

It was in the 70's, almost no one smoked unfiltered cigarettes by then.

Former smoker here. Pot or weed has a MUCH stronger odor. I was just in a campground close to 50 yards away somebody pulled in and lit up a “joint” and i could smell it plain as day I would’ve never smelled cigeratte smoke that far away. I get the rule.
Although I am a former smoker I feel that smokers “rights”have been seriously violated they can’t seem to smoke anywhere.
Any business wants to allow people to smoke should be allowed. Anyone that has offense to that should not attend that private business.

We once had a family(!) next to us where the parents had to smoke crack (or meth) even before they even got dressed. They did it in their tow vehicle, about 10 feet from where we were eating breakfast.

The smell was awful.

In the UK the no smoking inside a business was to protect staff from 2nd hand smoke.....

And in the past when smoking was allowed inside a business, I very often would go inside, smell smoke, and leave as quickly as possible, so they did not get any of my business. No sense not being able to breathe through my nose after it reacted to the smoke. Ditto for cabs or other transportation where the smell of smoking is evident. And these days I also quickly walk out of those candle stores that stink horribly. They kick off my allergies, and this is exactly why I had to buy a new motorhome, rather than a used one.

Back in the days when you could rent a car for smoker or non-smoker, the rental companies didn't keep separate fleets. They cleaned all the cars the same, and put stickers in the vehicle if you requested non-smoking. Everyone was happy.

We have a favorite nearby restaurant that is "no smoking on Sunday", but the odor has permeated the entire facility Monday-Saturday. Oh, and on normal "smoking" days, you can smoke in one room that has an extra-wide door to let smoke out into the rest of the facility. Ya just gotta pick your battles.

So the folks that work in these facilities that you want to smoke in should just buck up and put up with it. No matter the health risks associated with inhaling secondhand smoke. Smokers have the right to slowly kill themselves in the privacy of their own homes, cars or in an area where nonsmokers will not be affected. I am of the opinion that any and all tobacco products should be illegal.

Yes, I’m not saying it should or would be allowed everywhere. I get no smoking in malls and most stores. But bars, personally owned restaurants, etc should be allowed if they so choose. Employees know that up front and won’t work there if they don’t want to. And non smokers can choose as well.

That’s extreme.

The problem with that way of thinking is smokers will still go to non smoking restaurants and bars while non smokers will not go to smoking facilities.
It’s not extreme to non smokers.
