Need advice on a ring camera

We use a ring camera with flood light monitoring our drive. It's recordings can be accessed via my desk top or cell phone, and I get notifications and visual on my cell when at home or away.
I like the fact that you can set the function to react to larger intruders and adjust the perimeter that it monitors.
Until I figured that one out, I was getting notifications when cats, dogs, skunks, racoons, rabbits and deer were in my drive.
The flood light can be set to turn on and off at set times. If set to off will light up when motion is detected for a set period of time, before it shuts off.
Haven't spent a penny for subscription fees, and it has all the features I need. ;)

Just my $.02 FWIW

Safe travels and all the best.

Where do you access the recordings? You have to have a subscription to do it on the Ring network. If you go into the Ring app to access a list of the recordings or view it in the camera view then you do have a subscription. The subscription is to purchase cloud storage for your recorded videos.

If Ring is anything like Bling, you use your own local storage (memory card) to record video w/o a subscription. These tend to be slower response time as well as someone can just steal the recording after breaking in; something to think about.

Mine is not like that. You may be able to use an external storage device with Ring but I don't know how that could be done. To save video you must have a subscription as far as I know.

So I looked into this and although Ring does allow local storage there is a subscription fee to do that. In looking at the web site I see no way of viewing recordings, NOT LIVE FEEDS, w/o paying something. You would be able to do all the other things mentioned.

Yes I pay $100 annually to see live and all the recordings. I have 3 cameras. Well 2 cameras and then the doorbell with camera.
$100 a year ain’t free, but sure is reasonable IMO.
Thisis a RING system.

With Blink for one device it's $3 a month/30 a year. For unlimited devices it the jumps to $10 a month/100 a year. When my trial ends I'll go with the $30 plan, my wife can still do all live monitoring from her phone.

I'll have to check on that, but I dont think we pay any subscription fee for our ring device.
I have up to 30 events recorded with no charge, view history and have intruder notification.
Safe travels and all the best.

If you have recorded events I think you are paying for it. I never saw where I could get 30 events for free but maybe that is a choice I don't know about. At any rate, 30 events would be useless. You can get that if someone walks to your front door.

Of course Blink is increasing their subscription prices for the first time ever:. But you can lock in your current pricing for 3 years in advance.

Starting October 8, 2025, Blink Plus Plan pricing will increase from $10 per month / $100 per year to $11.99 per month / $119.99 per year

I stand corrected. After checking I found that we pay a subscription fee of $49.50 once a year and can store an unlimited number videos (most of which last about 30 seconds) for 7 days. We can download the ones we want to keep, to my hard drive for more permanent storage. It works for us.

Safe travels and all the best.

Not familiar with that plan either. The only plan I am aware of is the $100/yr. plan that is unlimited storage and not sure on the number of cameras. I have 8 cameras on mine. And I know that they just had a price increase on one of their other plans that I got an email about. Not sure of the specifics.

This is exactly why we went with an Eufy system... with the optional Home Base 3 we can get up to 16 TB (expandable from 16 G:cool: of home storage with out any subscription fee (That always is increased)... WE have only had the system for a few months but we are very happy with it...

Unless you wanted it monitored, I don’t see why you would want a system that only works efficiently with a subscription….

So what would you do if a camera on your system alarms but you don't have storage capability to instantly go back and look at what alarms it? I fail to see the good in a camera system that you can't go look at what just happened on it. Much less being able to go back a week and look at something.

I don't understand what you are saying. Blink is a couple seconds quicker using cloud storage but Blink works just fine using local storage. The size of your local storage is only dependent on how much you plug into it. It doesn't require anything to be monitored for cloud or local storage. You want cloud storage if someone breaks in and steals your local storage.
