HI- Friend who full times needs to find a long term RV park near a VA Hospital in Florida or Arizona, he was diagnosed with lung cancer in March. Here is what she sent me.

" it?s a difficult decision. FL VA hospitals are good, but the humidity is tough for Jeff. The dry climate in AZ is better & we have friends there, but the Phoenix VA is the worst in the country. Prescott is somewhat better, but not rated as high as the ones in FL. Thinking we just look for long term rates in places that have good hospitals for now. Stay in FL for the winter, get out for the summer."

Thanks

Gainesville, FL has a good VA hospital. I used it while attending the University of Florida. There are many RV parks in the area.

There is a VA hospital near Orlando, 13 miles from the Floridian where I have lived the last 7 years.

There is a fairly large VA hospital in Kerrville, TX with a few nearby rv parks (within a few of blocks).  Kerrville is in the Texas Hill Country northwest of San Antonio, so the air is relatively dry compared to east Texas.  I can't make any comments about the VA hospital there, as I have only driven past it.

I am a disabled vet and have used the VA in the past. I now use Medicare and Tricare for Life. I don?t know if your friend is eligible for Medicare but if she is her options are much greater. We receive excellent care from such institutions as John?s Hopkins and the Mayo Clinic. And we never receive a bill

There is also one in Tampa and there are several RV parks in that area.  I've never been to that hospital so I can't  rate it.

Make sure you look to see if there is a military campground close to the VA hospital you choose at militarycampgrounds.us
Many of the campgrounds have full hookups at a much cheaper price than a civilian campground.

Except the average veteran does not qualify for the CG'S. This requirement is due to be relaxed a little in January 2020 but still the average veteran will NOT qualify.

To answer another question. The way to find a good VA is to call and ask what medical schools and other hospitals they are affiliated with If they are affiliated with a good teaching hospital and medical school then you most likely will get a good VA. No affiliations then avoid them.
The premise is that if the VA is doing things not up to snuff it puts the teaching hospital at risk and the residents/med students will mention it to their home hospital. IN my many years at the VA I saw this operate at times even going so far as to have the VA remove an attending physician because the VA did not want to risk losing the affiliation.

I will pass this on just in case they can stay at one, she never mentioned them staying at one before but it is worth an ask.
thanks
