Need recommendations for a mattress

Hello everyone. We just bought a new camper with a 60" x 70" sleeping platform and need recommendations for a really comfortable mattress. We don't want to overpay, of course, but are definitely willing to pay top dollar for comfort and quality. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

If you do an internet search you can find a lot of RV mattresses, but most are brands not well known. What we always did was to buy a high-quality foam pad to add to what came in the RV.

I have used these mattresses from amazon in both of my last two RVs.

Years ago I bought a very expensive one for my Country coach and I like these Amazon ones just as much as the expensive one.

We have been through a few mattresses in the house and the motorhome. So far the Costco unit we picked up for the MH has them all beat and just yesterday we said need to go buy another one from Costco for the house.

What constitutes a "comfortable mattress" is a highly personal judgement. I can say with some assurance that cheap mattresses are no where near as comfortable or long-lasting as the higher end brands, but "cheap" is subjective too. Is your home mattress comfortable? Buy on like it.

You stated a 60x70 size but the RV "short queen" standard is 60x74? Would that work? Several major mattress makers build that size.

Get whatever you are using in your home (house / apartment). Because we live in our camper about 10 months out of the year, and sleep in it all 12 months of the year, we bit the bullet and got the best mattress we could.

We have a Helix, not cheap AT ALL, but such a good mattress! We used Serta mattresses for years and years in all of our previous campers. We still have Serta's in the house!

Again, whatever you are using in your house, will work just fine in your camper. Be comfortable. Just because you are "camping" doesn't mean you need to sleep "like" you are camping!

We eliminated all our Casita trailer OEM uncomfortable cushions and added 8 inch thick mattresses from Mattress Insider that were custom designed and built to each of our preferred firmness levels.

While our Casita Liberty model had a King size bed configuration option, our custom mattress sleeping area design provides the preferable Casita Independence model 30 inches wide sleeping berths in the upper torso area where highly beneficial while also still retaining the preferable Casita Liberty model 28 inches wide aisle in the dining area where it is absolutely needed to avoid having to play footsies while dining. As Gary says, it's a personal thing. My wife and I require significantly different 'comfort levels', so we've purchased Sleep Number mattresses in several residences, boats and RVs. This allows us to adjust the mattress to our individual preferences.

60x70 is a less common size by 60x74 is short queen which can be found with alot of regular mattress companies online!

I do not have a Brooklyn Bedding Mattress. I was not aware of them yet when my wife and I went to a local Extreme Mattress Store (don't know if they are national or what) and for $399 , short queen, we got a great old fashioned interspring mattress that's heavy as heck, 10 yr warranty. We added an one inch topper from Amazon that we already had on our old p.o.s. mattress. All we could say afterwards was what took us so long to get a new mattress.

Personally i wouldnt buy a mattress without being able to lay on it for a good bit of time to make sure it was right for us. Everyone's wants and needs are different. Recommend going to several mattress places to decide and then you can look online to see if you can save money. Mattress companies used to play a game where models were specific to stores making it difficult to shop around but i think that is changing.

We went with a standard purple mattress and it surprised me that newer types werent more comfy but it saved us some money. We avoided sleep number because they didnt sell a model that didnt need internet connectivity to set up

Know what type of mattress you like at home, and buy one similar. For example, we prefer solid latex foam mattresses with no memory foam. I know other people who would never voluntarily sleep on something without memory foam. Other people prefer traditional coil mattresses. Once you have defined the basic style, start looking.

I had to have a custom mattress made because of the strange size and a corner being cut off so the slide would go in. I ordered it from an expensive Indiana company, Bradd & Hall, in Elkhart, but they messed up my order, and it was delayed.

However, the mattress tag says it was manufactured for:

But the above looks like they are marketing to dealers. It also says on that tag that it was made by WV11159, 627 Congaree Rd, Greenville, SC 29607. A search of that address shows it is a company called Engineered Sleep.

There were three levels of cost and I got the middle one and have been happy with it. The highest cost one was a little thicker and softer. I had the expensive Indiana company do the measuring so they were responsible for getting the size right, and they did.

Most importantly, you need a mattress that is intended to not need a foundation mattress.

That's the main reason my DW and I went to Extreme Mattress vs Amazon or elsewhere which seems to be the rage. Although we have the gel foam topper, we both wanted an old-fashioned innerspring mattress and not the blow-up foam shopping online.
