Netgear Nighthawk M1 on Visible

I just bought a Nighthawk M1 that's UNLOCKED. I signed up for Visible and waiting for the phone and simcard to arrive today. I'll use the simcard in the Nighthawk for the internet (data) only. Some youtube-ers said to use a software called DC-UNLOCKER to unlock and change the IMEI on the Nighthawk to act like the phone. Can I do this without DC-Unlocker ( that's somewhere outside US and you have to pay in Euros, about $35 - sounds shady) since my Nighthawk is unlocked ? thanks for advice
