As if the Spaghetti Bowl construction through Las Vegas wasn't enough, Nevada DOT is starting a two year widening of Highway 160 between Las Vegas and Pahrump.
This is the shortest route from Las Vegas to Death Valley and the construction delays may be a factor if you're planning to go that way to the Death Valley rally in November.
Starting tomorrow, Sept 24 through October 15, the highway will be closed every other workday from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM while crews dynamite the outcroppings on the rock walls along a 6 mile stretch of the canyon east of Mountain Springs.
Additional blasting is expected to occur closer to Mountain Springs through early November, creating further delays.
The alternate is to take US 95 north from Las Vegas, then use Hwy 160 to enter the Pahrump valley from the north. Or continue north on US 95 to Armagosa Valley or Beatty, then use those routes to get to Death Valley.
