New AARP Unlimited Plan at Consumer Cellular

I just checked on the Consumer Cellular web page, and their new plan for seniors (50+) with AARP is unlimited talk, unlimited text and unlimited data for $57/month, with data after 50 GB subject to reduced date rate. So I just switched. We've been with them for at least 15 years (perhaps a little longer), and it's worked very well for us.

Our old plan at the same price only allowed 10GB of data, though the other two were unlimited. The 10GB wasn't a problem for us, since we've NEVER used even half that much data via phone. I only switched because it was the same price.

BTW, it's the same price as when we started with them having a very limited talk and very limited text and 400MB of data.

Same as my Visible/Verizon plan. Unlimited talk, text, and data including tethering with no slow down after some number of GB's.

My phone, $55 a month. The wifes and the Verizon MiFI, $150 a month. Spectrum so we can get 5,000 TV channels and search the Internet for hours $100 a month. Total $305 x 12 = $3,660.

Starlink when we use it $165 a month. Otherwise it's $5 a month because Elon needs the money. Last year we used Starlink for about 4 months. So call it $660 plus $40 for the other 8 months.

That's $4,320 for the year.

Back in the day before cell phones and the Internet, I paid about $3-400 a year for a land line. I could even drive across the country without a phone in the car. Today I panic when I go to the grocery store if I forgot my phone. Something doesn't add up here. And I'm not talking about the dollars.

I guess it's called progress.

Oh I forgot, there are minor things like Netflix, Prime, Apple TV, and ???. And then there is the Ring security system and that handy little device that the wife can use if she's injured and or lost in a remote area. And whatever it is she pays for so she can count her steps.

That can't be all. I'm sure I'll think of others after I finish this post.

One thing about CC is it's a monthly plan. You're not locked into a long contract.

That fourth bullet is the basic answer. There's a lot more on their website, but basically the hotspot data usable matches that of your service plan.

I agree with a couple others T-Mobile has the best senior plan. Especially if you watch any TV or use much data. Unlimited with no slowdown on data.

I just moved to Visible on the Verizon network. I moved two phones and each one is $19 per month, including fees and taxes for two years, I think. This is for unlimited talk, text, and data. There may be some limitations for a hot spot, but it's right where I want it to be.

In my experience with AARP and Medigap plans, you pay a premium for the AARP name without any premium benefit. I don't know if it's the same with phone service, but I'm not much of a name brand guy.

I haven't seen that myself. The various AARP insurance plans I've encountered typically are more comprehensive plans that include extra features without extra cost. So they give more value for your money rather than reduce the price.

I have the regular Consumer Cellular two-line Senior Plan and get a $2,76/month discount for being an AARP member. Mine is $55/mo got unlimited talk/text and 15 GB of data, which matches our usage nicely. With the usual crap regulatory fees and taxes here in FL, less the AARP discount, it comes out to about $66/mo. I'll check into that AARP plan that Larry found but it may be a wash with what I now pay.

WOW, that's a lot of money to surf the net, unless working from the rig, and to watch TV in your camper.

I guess if you're under 55 I understand why people use an off brand cell service costing as much as one of T-Mobile's 55+ plans. Otherwise I don't understand. T-Mobile is now the largest carrier for many good reasons..

Are you sure? Theirs is a footnote, not an asterisk, but it says: "Essentials customers may notice speeds lower than other customers and further reduction if using >50GB/month., due to data prioritization."

The cheapest $60 Essentials plan only. Not the other 2 plans.

I just moved to Visible on the Verizon network. I moved two phones and each one is $19 per month, including fees and taxes for two years, I think. This is for unlimited talk, text, and data. There may be some limitations for a hot spot, but it's right where I want it to be.

We've been using Visible for years and have never encountered any slowdown with computer and TVs connected at the same time. Never seen anything better with, cost of data, in any of these "amazing offers" from other providers that pop up all the time that would cause me to switch.
