Hi all- new owner of a travel trailer, here to pick up some pointers and advice.  Have 4 kids and a lovely wife, so went big with a 33' bunkhouse.  Unfortunately,  most of our camping will happen at 3 or 4 local campgrounds 20-40 miles away.  Maybe someday I'll upgrade to a larger tow vehicle and do some real traveling, but for now, I'll haul the trailer in my Tundra and my wife will follow in the Sienna with the kids!  Glad to be here!

There's nothing wrong with camping close to home, 20 miles feels like a million when you camp, you're getting away, that's what matters. Enjoy!

Hi from another Iowan. When our kids were middle school/high school.age, we spent a lot of weekends awfully close to home. In fact, some of those weekends were only 5 - 10 miles away. It meant we could do the running around for school activities for one or two of them while the rest of the family hiked, boated, or just sat around the fire. Nothing wrong with staying close.

Welcome. Spent many nights camped on the Wapsi  near Calamus / Wheatland in Iowa. Very close to our Quad City home.
