New here, just bought an used RV

My first problem with the RV is that the battery kept dying even though connected to electricity, so I thought the problem may be the AC/DC converter. It is hard to find the same model, I managed to buy one that looked similar but it's slightly bigger and doesn't fit in the slot below the distribution panel.. any suggestions?

Steps you took to troubleshoot and reach this conclusion will reveal if this is the correct path to resolution. Make/model of the converter you tried to replace would be useful.

Those photos don't identify a brand/model but the 55A rating helps a bit. Atwood use to market a converter/charger with the TP model designation, so might be that. No longer available, though. Have you removed it yet? If not, test it for output voltage. With the batteries disconnect, you should be able to read at least 13.0v at the DC output wires. Maybe as much as 14.4v.

Presumable the replacement is also 55A or more? Is their room to put the new one in with some mods? Doesn't have to be the exact same place as long as the cables to the battery don't get too long.

Your photo looks like it's an R-Vision brand of RV (Trail Cruiser is the model). Here's a previous thread about a converter/charger on that brand.

The intertubes show this is an Atwood model, and it appears is a single stage charger. The "made in china" sticker is a pretty strong indicator it's just a rebranded something else anyway. But there's nothing magical about it, pick out a nominal 45-55A multistage converter that fits in the spot you need it to, and down the road you go. Nothing says it has to be form or fit, as per Gary's comment it doesn't have to be in the same exact spot. I'm normally not one to arbitrarily replace components but in this case even if it was perfectly functional, a single stage charger can be unnecessarily hard to live with. Life is easer and battery health better with a multistage converter. This is like going from a 19" tube TV to a 32" smart flat screen.

Can we assume that your first step was to determine if the battery itself is good or bad?

If that is a "Stand alone" Converter (Only 1-2 or 3 Fuses. by the way test them and if blown replace ALL while it is unplugged) I'd recommend the Progressive dynamics 9245. A top rated converter. You can get a refurb reasonably from PD directly. PD is in Marshall Michigan.

Thanks for all the suggestions! Turns out the battery wasn’t good.. I replaced it and I managed to replace the converter as well. To test things out I plugged the RV to the electric line at my house, I turned all lights on and refrigerator as well. Everything stayed lit and working for a whole day, however looks like the refrigerator isn’t working. The lights are on but it’s not cold inside.. any idea why ? I can send photos if you’d like me to .. thanks !
