I bought this box trailer back in the early 90s. It was handy for hauling the kids dirt bikes and few camp trips over the years. It has sat in the back of our property for so long the wood sides rotted away and the gophers buried it pretty good. I had to use the Back Hoe to get it out. Gave it a bath and assessed what I had to work with. The plan is a Cargo Trailer to haul the Harley in it on some of our adventures. With the horrible experience we had with U Haul renting theirs on our trip to Qsite in Jan. I've had this in my head for awhile. Got the Torch out and started cutting the bad away, didn't have much left in the end. I enjoy taking something most wouldn't even bother with and making into something useful again. More to come over the next couple weeks,,,gregg

Enjoy, looks like the sky is the limit at this point  ;)  Be sure to check and grease bearings when all done, I'm doing a little workover on my old trailer as well.

I think the pics are backward.  The more I looked, the less trailer there was to see  ;D

What is the date code on the tires  8)

I think this would be one of the few times that I have been able to say............

I don't think you will need a WD hitch...and I think you could handle the trailer with a !/2 ton truck.

But what ever you do DON'T wire it up with a 50 amp service....We would never agree whether it's 50 amps or 100 amps ;D ;D

Not a thing wrong with those tires. Look at the tread.  ??? ::) :-\ :))

I thought I'd throw up a progress report. Made some decent progress even with a crazy month of interruptions life brings us. Waiting on some more Aluminum to finish, thought I had enough in my scrap pile but two different thickness wasn't going to work for me. All new Alloy wheels, bearings, led lights. I added rear landing gear to be able to load the bike without being hooked up to a hitch. Coil springs to ease lifting the ramp. Front wheel chalk to help hold the bike and rubber Diamond plate pattern rubber mat for a floor covering,, I still have to cut and fit it and screw it down. The trailer measures 5x8, 7' tall inside. The box wall, top  frame is 2" angle, 1/2" plywood sign board, it takes the weather and has a veneer on one side for a smooth finish when painted. I can stand on top of this trailer, it's solid. in fact I plan on adding a rack for Kayaks. I hope to wrap this up in a couple days when the rest of the material arrives. I'll have to resize my pics to get them to fit, here's were it was last week,,,gregg

Sure looks purdy.  Nice trailer indeed, hopefully it pulls decent for you, not the most aerodynamic I've seen, but certainly functional.  Good job.  :))

Haha. looks tall,  and will slip thru the air like a shoe box, lol. That's ok, not much air to slice thru towing behind the camper. This is really going to be nice for us besides just having the Harley on trips. Our Truck Camper is perfect for what we do but limited storage has us packing the back seat of the truck full of stuff. With a 7' tall trailer, now I can add some over head cabinets, a place for a longer table and secure rack for the chain saw and a fuel can,,,gregg

Well dang, I missed this original post.  Now I can't use my witty remark "C'mon, a little duct tape will fix that right up"!  You ruined it for me.  But wow, what a transformation.  Very nice.

Here's the book end to this project with pics,,, 5x8' and it's 7' tall, yea its tall but perfect for adding some overhead storage, a rack for a chainsaw and gas, a rod rack down the center and still be able to stand up in it. Most of its trips will towing behind the camper, so I'm not concerned with wind drag. It's a solid trailer, so much so I can jump up and down on the roof, the thinking is that if we do get a couple Kayaks, I'll have a solid base to add a rack on top. All new Alloy rims, tires, leaf springs and hangers, Aluminum fenders, Clear LED lights, coil springs and a 300lb gas strut to aid lifting the ramp, rubber diamond plate pattern floor and ramp, heavy duty front wheel catch for the bike, and rear landing gear to be able to load the bike with out being hooked up to a hitch. I used MDO 1/2" plywood, its has a waterproof fiber/resin on one side, so when its painted it doesn't look like painted wood, its also called sign board. This going to be a handy little trailer to have on hand. Unfortunately we had to postpone our trip to Zion and Bryce National Parks which was the reason I started the build to begin with,,,gregg

So you salvaged the axle to use it on your new trailer build. Nice job. It will be nice to have the storage.

My thoughts, too.  Kept the tongue frame and hitch, too.

Really nice job, specific to your needs!  ENJOY!!
