New to RVs

We are glad to be here. Always interested in new information.  Tom and Kim are new to RVs, but are diving in deep, as we are living in our 84 Chevy Winnebago Chieftain. We welcome any information on our new home on wheels. It is missing things and has been modified and remodeled. In short, all the plumbing has been removed along with the stove. All we are left with is the power control box that was over the stove and the fridge which may or may not work. We had power to both when we first set up but soon drained the batteries after we plugged in to AC power. Not sure if there is a switch to throw while on AC or what. It may need a starter next time we choose to move, all she does is click since we parked it. Otherwise she has a strong engine for her age. A few cosmetic issues, but we think she is going to be a lot of fun getting her to shine again. Anyway, that's us, living in a nice little campground for now. Would love some pointers, especially from anyone familiar with our model.

Welcome Tom and Kim.  Lots of good info here. I suggest picking a particular item or subject and posting a question about it, and what you are trying to accomplish. You will get much better focused responses.  You really have a project in front of you, so the better you are at tinkering and fixing, the more luck you will have.  All it takes is time and money.

There is also lots of good info already in the "Library" link  button above.  It may give you answers to things that you didn't know you needed to ask about.

Very good chance you either have a 'chassis' bad battery, a battery that simply needs charged, or dirty terminal connections on the battery and/or starter.  Or all the above, but all that is easier and cheaper place to start than a new starter    Personally, I would start by trying to give it a jump start with jumper cables.

Your motorhome is supposed to have a converter/charger, which is an electrical device that produces 12v DC power from 120v AV (shore) power.  When plugged to shore power, the converter/charger supplies all the 12v power needed to operate the RV and also recharges the batteries.  It sounds like yours isn't working.  Or maybe even is missing, given the extent of the modifications you describes.

The best advise I can give you is don't just start throwing money/parts at the RV until you KNOW it's something you need.

Ask lots of questions and save lots of money.
