Hi from Kansas! New to the forum. My wife and I just purchased our first 5th wheel and are learning the ropes. Lots to learn yet as we both just recently retired are looking forward to travel.

Hi.
EAST COAST, West coast or Texas?
I didn?t think Kansas is any of those places ?

DH grew up at the Oklahoma/Kansas border, and we have driven the Flint Hills dozens and dozens of times heading back from Iowa. Gorgeous country. Enjoy your rig.

Our first long range trip will be to the East Coast. Probably North Carolina and West Virginia as we have family there.

Flinthills,

There is standard advice given (or should be) all new RV owners.

Spend the first night (or more) in your driveway.

There will be things that discover that you did not know or think you would need.  Trust me on this.....

The advice to camp on your own property for a few days is very sound.  I hooked up the shore water to the TT to test the plumbing out.  After about 20 minutes there was this strange sound coming from inside the TT.  Went in, looked around, saw nothing unusual. Lifted the toilet cover and looking straight down into the toilet noticed the water level was at the brim. What would any boy do? Flushed of course. Have you ever seen Old Faithful? Water shot out of the toilet going 63 1/4 miles per hour hitting me in the forehead on the way to the ceiling.  Stunned, I staggered backwards.  If that was not education enough, since there was still water in the toilet it was flushed again. Hit in the head again. Water was now flowing down the aisle and out the door. Hollered for help from DW who showed up proclaiming ?I wish I had a camera. I wish I had a camera?. Well, as the seasoned rv?ers already know, I connected the water to the sewer clean out port instead of the shore water port.  Lesson learned, and a few more.  The price of the TT was worth my DW telling this story.

;D ;D ;D Well written, Larry!  I could just picture it - no camera needed! Thanks for a good laugh.
