We are headed to Bar Harbor. Once we get to Newburgh, NY, past that we are not finding an abundance of campgrounds for overnite stays along route 84, 90, 495 and 95. is this the best route or should we go up to Albany? I know this question has probably been asked a lot. Sorry.

I don't remember the whole route but when we went from Savannah to Maine we tried to stay away from 95. We cut up 26 to 77 to 81 to 88 and then through Bennington to Maine.

Newburgh to Wells Maine is 4-5 hour ride via Rtes 84 and 95. Boondockers has 20 hosts in the area; an hour up the road in Portland Harvest Hosts has a handful of sites. There are a number of private campgrounds on the Maine coast as well. Route 1 is the most scenic to Bar Harbor.

What program(s)/apps are you using to find campgrounds? We travel NY to Maine relatively often and always manage a campground near the I90/I495 area. Heading nort on I95 and into Maine there is an abundance of campgrounds along the coast. As mentioned, Rt.1 is very scenic and offers a lot attractions. Best is the fresh lobster! ;)

We usually boondock at the Mogen Sun Casino in Wilkes Barre, PA and then our next stop is the Portland, Maine area but there are plenty of CGs in Maine south of there. There is a Yogi Bear Jellystone CG off I84 just before it joins I90 but we've never stayed there. Also off I-495 in MA there is Boston Minuteman CG in Littleton. We have stayed there to see relatives (we had a 43MH with tow).
