Hey Bob,
Your best bet is to give us your general location, maybe one of the members would be willing to spend a day teaching you.  Lacking that, pay a mobile mechanic to come to you and give you a few hours training.

Welcome to the Forum.  You have come to the right place for answers.  Aside from Google and great you-tube video's, navigate to the top of this forum and you will find a place called Library.  Great starting point.

Also, 1981 Salem ??  Are there some numbers and letters probably by the door, give us a hint of style / size?  Is this a Travel Trailer I would guess?

Welcome to the RV Forum Bob

X's 2 what Donn said.

Finding a manual could be a bit of a challenge...And if you do find one most of the time they are very limited on how to use your RV.

Make use of the library link above and start reading.

As a good example...To DE- winterize a RV will depend on how it was winterize, the type of water heater and bypass setup. Are you using the on board water tank or do you have usable water on site. How will you deal with waste.

A typical trailer owner manual will be next to useless anyway, so don't bother to hunt for one.

We have some helpful stuff in the RVForum Library, especially the Newcomers Need To Know section. Take a look:  http://www.rvforum.net/joomla/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&id=64&Itemid=132
If the water system has been winterized with pink RV antifreeze, drain it and flush with fresh water, perhaps multiple times to get rid of the taste (it's harmless). You will have to find the tank drain, water heater drain (and possibly heater bypass valves), and low point drains for the water lines. RV makers are endlessly creative with locations and types of valves, so hard to guess where yours may be.

X2 on what Donn said.

There is so much to explain that it would worth your money to pay someone for a couple hours. If it's sitting on property and connected to a septic/sewer a very important thing is to NOT leave the black tank open as you us the RV. A pile of waste will build up because there isn't enough water flow to carry it away. Leave the valve closed and throw 4 or 5 gallons of water down the toilet so the waste falls into plenty of water. That way it will more easily flow when opening the black tank valve.

Welcome to the forum. Well you solved one of the problems we often hear on the foruns"where do I park it" :D
Forest River now uses that name on one of their lines. Look on the trailer and see if you can find more information on who made it. Might not be them as there was a big consolidation a few years ago.

You can find some Youtube videos on winterising and dewinterizing. As mentioned earlier geting a mobile tech or a RV inspector to come out and go over everything may be the most effective way to learn about what you have.
How do you plan on using the trailer?

Just commenting on the subject line.. YOU DO know the first thing... YOU know where the money comes from... (Your wallet/bank account) :)

Just so you know.

As for how to winterize/De-winerize.. other than saying I prefer blowing the lined out to filling 'em with a chemical solution (The "DRY" method)  Others have given good advice.

:)) :))  Youtube is the best video trainer and handyman available for the price, 8)  Tongue and cheek, but you can get some great help there.
