Hello All,

My wife Amy and I have been swept into the RV world by Hurricane Katrina.  We live in Gulfport Mississippi at the center of the disaster.  While we wanted to get an RV, the hurricane has forced us to do it a little sooner that planned.  While our home is fine, our office is not and we have purchased a 39' Ameri-Camp fifth-wheel to use as a mobile office and a vacation excuse.  While I have boating experience and am very technically inclined, I think I am going to need a lot of advice on the RV side of it.  So anyway...Hello all and considering the circumstances, we are VERY glad to be here.

Hello Richard and Amy

Welcome to the most friendly form and glad to hear that you and your home are ok. ?Sorry about the office but putting it in a RV isn't all bad if it leads to more RV'ing. ?It is a great life especially if both of you enjoy it.

Welcome to the RV Forum.  Glad to hear you, your wife and home are safe.  Moving the office into an RV may just open more opportunities for you as well as giving you a chance to experience the RVing lifestyle.  Ask any questions you have and we will try to answer them for you.

Richard and Amy, welcome. Your technical background will help and you'll find a lot of your boating experience will carry over into RVing. You just don't need to worry so much about osmodic blisters in gel coat, bottom paint, or props (or sails if you're a rag sailor). A number of us here have boating experience in addition to being RV owners. Many of the appliances will be the same or similar as will some of the electrical systems, although some things will be different.

Feel free to ask any and all questions you have and folks here will try to get them answered.

Hi Richard & Amy,

Welcome to the forum. Glad you are both safe as well as your home!! We were in Bay St. Louis in the fall for an American Coach rally at the casino. Drove through Gulfport and got some great shots of the shrimp fleet. Guess we were lucky to get them when we did. :(

You won't have any problems getting used to RVing having owned a boat. You'll find many former boaters in this hobby now. My happiest day was when I went from gallons per hour to miles per gallon! ;D

Thanks for the warm welcome.  Jim, if you have some good photos of the area, keep them as treasures.  Everything along the beach highway is literally gone.  The photos you see on CNN cannot do justice to what happened down there.

Richard

Richard,

I do and I will. I have one hanging in the coach. It's a B&W of the train tracks across the bay at Bay St. Louis. I would imagine it isn't there anymore but will be rebuilt somehow. The house next to it was really nice. Hope there's something left.
