That is if buying an older Class C is 'grand' ;-).

Just moved to Reno from northeast Ohio, originally from Southern California.  Finally sold our house in Ohio (took a loss but not too bad) so now we're looking...  The market out here seems pretty good for used RV's, and we have our eyes on a 1981 22' Lazy Dayz.  It's just the wife, our pug and me.. and soon a canoe..but that'll fit on top would be the plan.

We don't need much space, and like camping in more obscure areas where getting a larger RV in would be difficult or impossible.. about a 20' Class C seems like it'd be perfect for us... we might go smaller for the right one.

Hope to hang around and participate here as much as I can.

Do you plan on pulling  toad?

If not then you may want to consider a Ford Ranger, Toy. Tacoma or Nissan Frontier pulling a molded fiberglass 5th wheel (these are in the 19' range)  like the Scamp.....

or the Escape 5.0.....

No toad, but a trailer for our motorcycles is planned..  As I already have a nissan Fronty we considered the options and a MH is best for our needs at this point.

Tacoma pulling a 5th wheel? Surely you can't be serious.  I have a 93 Toyota pickup (pre taco). Even with the SE-V6, the towing capacity is only 3500 pounds with a 350 pound tongue weight. That's on the rear. you might get a little more tongue capacity in a 5th wheel setup, but even then you are looking at the smallest of the small 5th wheels - if they even exist that small.

I love my truck, but if I wanted to go TT or 5er route AND wanted to stay Toyota, I'd only consider a Tundra.

The Fronty has a much larger towing capacity, however I'm not a big fan of loading to the max anyway.  I think the 18' Scamp fifth wheel is a claimed dry weight of 2000# so towing with a small/mid truck should be fine.

However these small fifth wheels are not self contained, at least the scamp only lists fresh water tank.

Like I said, RV is the plan.. I've been back and forth with the pros/cons of TT's and fifth wheels...  A small motorhome is our best bet at this point.

The molded fiberglass are towed with the Rangers, Tacomas and the Fronties a lot.  You see it all the time at the molded fiberglass trailer get togethers.  I've been in a self contained Scamp up at Lake Tahoe.

They are much, much lighter than a full size trailer and yes, they are self contained.  The Escape 5.0 can even be ordered for all seasons.  We were considering an all season Escape 5.0 before we decided to go full time after our retirement.  Our thinking is the smaller it is......the easier it's going to be to pack up and go....on a regular basis.  That's the reason we went with a small full size 5th wheel.

Here you go.........

By the way, you might be as surprised as I was at the ratings at RV Consumer in quality, reliability and cost.

Are you sure they're self contained?  The offer an option that'll get you a 26gal gray water tank... but nothing on the specs or options about a black water tank.  If they are, they sure could use some help on the website..  The interior height at 6'3" is a bit short for my liking, I put on shoes and I'd be hitting things or having to stoop.

A fifth wheel doesn't even enter the running with us, could do a TT but I don't like loading our bikes into the back of a truck.  A MH is best fit for us.

You're wanting to haul motorcycles so it wouldn't work for you.  But for somebody wanting to do it on the small & easy.....there's a couple forums for people full timing in these things.

Yes, self contained (even thermal pane windows, heated holding tanks, etc. for all seasons).  They have:

Holding Tanks
■20 Gal. Fresh Water Tank
■26 Gal Grey Tank
■19 Gal Black Tank

See all the "Features" then click over to all the "Options"......I was as surprised as you are.....  http://escapetrailer.com/Products/Escape50.aspx

Ah, I was looking at the Scamp 19'.  Certainly seems like a good idea for a lot of folks, not everyone wants or needs a lot of space.  I see the interior height is a bit bigger on the Escape, I'd still likely hit fixtures... ;-)
