Nipple clamp problems

Now that I have your attention the nipple end of my grease gun hose is stuck on the zerk nipple. It was a new hose and gun. Was really hard to get it off the 1st 3 zerks. Ended up cutting the hose to get the gun off because il moving tomorrow.

Any idea what may have caused this? Or how I can get the hose end off that's still on the zerk?

Zerk fittings work by the pressure of the incoming grease trying to push them off of the fitting. This makes the claws in the grease gun end grip the nipple harder. To get the grease gun off you have to press downward on the grease gun fitting to dislodge the claws, then pull it off at an angle so the claws don't re-engage.

Worst case most Zerk fittings screw in, there's a hex nut at the base you can get a small wrench on and then unscrew them off. You can get a replacement fitting at an auto parts store and it will screw back in.

Didn't know about the push and angular pull thing. I had both hands on the gun pulling and it wouldn't come off. Was going to grind a wrench down to get the zerk off if I can't get it off.

Yep, most do. Just loosen the fitting on the end and it will loosen it's grip on the zerk.

The end of the coupler sleeve can be partially unscrewed to loosen it up. As others noted just rock the coupling off center, grease will spurt out and the coupler will come off. I greased landing gear and flight controls on airliners for 30+ years so I have lots of experience.

I highly suggest you get a LockNLube grease gun coupler, either the short or long model, depending on your uses, and you will never have a problem again removing a coupler, or have it pop off when it shouldn't.

Over my 60 years of fighting stuck zerks I just pop the grease gun nipple off by twisting a flat blade screwdriver under the edge. Works every time.

Well I feel like an idiot. Got setup at the next spot. Twisted the end and popped right off. Learned something new.
