A member with a 2022 Silverado 3500HD Duramax lost all power at the rear trailer connector after the trailer hot wire shorted against a Romex connector while rewiring. They could not find a visibly blown fuse and had already checked fuses with a circuit tester, but planned to try continuity testing as well.

Main viewpoints
  • Members suggested that fuses can fail even when they look intact, so checking with a multimeter, continuity tester, or test light was recommended.

I have a 2022 3500hd silverado duramax, i was rewiring travel trailer & decided to verify pigtail colors from truck. As i pulled the pigtail out of junction box, hot wire rubbed against romex connector. Thinking no big deal, just replace fuse that had blown, well could not find a blown fuse anywhere & I have nothing , no power at back of truck, trailer connection, any ideas ?
thank you in advance

Just remember that fuses can be non-functional even if they appear intact. You can use a multimeter to check them.

thank you, i did check them with circuit tester, will give a continuity tester try

Not all fuses are fuses. some are what are called 'Fusible Links" They look like a piece of wire.

Rather than a multi meter my weapon of choice is a test light . with an extension lead.,

Touch a connection if it's "Hot" (Has power)) Bright light
If not dark
If dim well there is a problem (Bad connection)

Start at the battery (Test the light) and work you way to the rear.

For a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD (Duramax), the 12-volt auxiliary power (battery charge) and trailer lighting fuses are located in the engine bay fuse block.
From AI:
Fuse Box Locations & Coverage
  1. Underhood Box 1 (Primary): Near the driver's side front battery. Controls primary vehicle functions like the engine control module (ECM), anti-lock brakes (ABS), cooling fans, and major powertrain components.
  2. Underhood Box 2 (Auxiliary/Accessory): Located next to the first box, closer to the engine. Covers specific trailer provisions, diesel-specific modules, the fuel pump driver, and body builder upfitter switches.
  3. Instrument Panel Block: Located on the lower right-hand side of the passenger-side footwell. Controls interior accessories (infotainment, heated seats, windows, diagnostic port, and retained accessory power).

I agree with Kurt. 3500is most likely set up for electric brakes needing a higher amperage to operate. They are mostly located out in engine compartment fuse panel.

The owners manual shows the location of all the fuses.
