The rangers at DV told me that the biggest kick they get is watching the tourists who day trip from Las Vegas walking from their car into the visitors center in the summer.
You are so, so, so wrong! Death Valley and Yellowstone tie for my two favorite parks. I have been to both many times, and both still hold areas I haven’t explored. Death Valley is the largest national park in the lower 48. And if you think it is just sand dunes, you are very wrong. I cheerfully admit I don’t go in the summer, but November through March are great.I doubt there is ever a good time to visit Death Valley.
I love Death Valley during the months you list. It can be cool or even chilly, and there are no crowds, believe it or not. And the cool weather makes it very comfortable to walk or hike. Last time I was there, the coyotes were cutting through the Furnace Creek Campground during the day, and the last day I was there, I took a photo of ice on Furnace Creek!

I used to lead wildflower walks in Death Valley. It’s the fall (November) and early spring (January-February) rains that bring the great blooms, not flash floods in August.According to some DV naturalists, the rains that make for a good bloom are the ones in autumn and winter, not summer. The bloom comes in March/April if conditions are right. I will be watching the forecast this fall. This is the first year in quite a few we aren’t getting to DV for the November 49ers Encampment. Kevin is scheduled to get a knee replacement, and it doesn’t look like the timing will work.
Please do! Words and pictures would really help. I love Death Valley. We will be missing the 49ers Encampment this year due to Kevin’s knee surgery, and I was already feeling blue. Our next trip is probably their dark sky get together in February.
