Showed up at the border with a letter from the employer stating that we were traveling for employment, but the Canada border guard with head scarf questioned the authenticity of the letter as the employer was my sister. She was also upset that we pulled up without face diapers on.
After taking our tazer, she let us through on the condition we not spend more than 6 days in their wonderful country (which was just fine by us), and that we stay in vehicle except for necessities like food and pumping gas.
I look forward to the day we can drive into Canada unimpeded, like we do into any other state.
Wondering if the moderators find anything wrong or baiting?

Still trying to understand what is allowed? Plus tried of biting my tongue when trolls allowed.

Thank you for flagging this, Jennifer. In the future you can use the "Report" button on the bottom of every message (including your own) to send a message about questionable content directly to the Site Team without having to publicly add to the trolling. Then we can act behind the scenes as required.

What is or isn't allowed is spelled out in the Forum's Community Rules. New members are referred to this when they sign up and there's a link to them at the bottom of every Forum page.

My personal philosophy is "less is better" when it comes to Forum moderation. But there are times when we need to step in. This was one of those.

In this case I removed the baiting comments from the original message but left them intact in your quoted reply for illustrative purposes. Other behind the scenes actions may include completely deleting the offending message(s), warning the poster or in the case of multiple flagrant violations banning them for varying lengths of time. Except for obvious spammers we almost never have to go this far.

Contrary to popular belief, all of us have lives outside this Forum so there may not be someone on the Site Team on line all of the time nor do we monitor every message posted. We do the best we can, in this case there was less than 4 hours between the original posting and your comments.

>>>Showed up at the border with a letter ....<<<

I normally try to bite my tongue (and step away from the keyboard) when I see lame troll comments like this, but this is next level pathetic and obnoxious attention seeking behaviour. Perhaps he SHOULD try to cross into Canada. With this attitude, I would expect him to get plenty of attention from the border agents.

Admin edit ... removed major portion of quoted message (explained elsewhere in this thread).

Lou, I was explicitly told by Tom a few years back mot to use the “Report” function because all the moderators would get the message, and it was disruptive to them. Has that changed? This was always the only forum where it was discouraged in all the various ones I use.

That's not quite what I would have meant to convey. At one time, we were having some issues (can't recall the details), and numerous members were reporting the same messages. Compounding this was the fact that some members felt the need to report anything and everything. I recall trying to resolve whatever the issues were, but couldn't come up for air because I was having to read/respond (?) to countless "me too" reports.

I really wished at that time that we had a way for everyone to see when a message/thread had been reported, so folks didn't feel the need to duplicate the reports.

Apologies if I caused any confusion.

Meanwhile, Lou said it correctly.

Jennifer, I guess racially or religiously charged statements are allowed these days.
In case you've not read the rules recently, that is definitely not the case.
The mods don’t like us to report posts; they says they notice all of these. Guess it isn’t real fast though.
Please read the rest of this thread.

Lou and Tom, I have used "Report" in the pass without results or feedback. I also remember your comment not to use the "Report" function as it clogs your system and impacts moderators time, thus I am with Pam.

In the real world I do not expect "Johnny on the spot" timing for the moderators to find or even recognize some of the troll etc. post. At times they are not obvious unless you have read the whole post. Obscure but goading through the tread.

I last read the Rules when new software implemented.

What I am sad and frustrated about is the trolls are generally the same members and their followers. I do not think I need to tell you this activity has been going on at least 2+ years. IMO it is pass time to get some peoples attention. And feel free to start with me if I stepped over the line!

Things have changed quite a bit. The new (current) forum software handles the reports quite differently, and I find it more efficient than the old software. We also have fewer "me too" reports, in addition to fewer folks reporting something just because they don't like what someone else said. It's also easier for us (the moderating team) to share communications on who is doing what in relation to an individual report.

Understood, and point taken. There was a time when I read every single message/post, but haven't done so for a while.

I agree Jennifer. The number of posters who troll here are quite small, but they are very consistent.

And to the OP whose very reasonable question as a newbie devolved into this spot, I am sorry. Until the derail I think you got good information.

FWIW we've been talking with several offenders, but this is done privately. Sometimes a member decides to quit rather than change their ways, but again we don't make a public issue of it.

Nephew went to work for Camping World. I now find all negative posts about Camping World to be highly offensive. Hopefully the moderators can do something about it.

Ridiculously silly thread. You should have far better things to do than worry about how someone hurts your feelings with a post. For the love of God don't read it if it affects you in that way. There are a couple of posters I don't read. I personally disagree with editing a post instead of deleting it or if you don't like what someone is saying just ban them.

I tend to agree with you and editing a post for content or banning someone except for obvious spam or ignoring repeated official warnings about prohibited content (again, spelled out in the Community Rules) is almost never done here. We do have an automatic filter that replaces banned words with **** and the Community Rules prohibit trying to bypass it. We also have rules against putting down individuals or groups.

In this case if I had simply removed the post I would also had to remove ferfer's and UTTransplant's comments referencing it and questioning Forum policy. Instead, I edited the offensive content while leaving it intact in ferfer's reply, left the "edited by a moderator" tag on the original post and a public explanation why the actions were taken for everyone's edification.

While I don't post anymore due to a variety of reasons and interests, across all online forums considering someone to be a troll is highly subjective, depending on a person's opinion to any topic. There is a difference in subjective and offensive posts, which goes against most forum rules.

What I witnessed was severe stalking that went unchecked. Personally online forums are mostly a time killing activity and rarely waste time taking other posts to heart. So moving along keeps my blood pressure on an even keel . There will never be a 100 percent consensus on any topic. Cheers

I agree 100% and the kicker is that almost any topic can very quickly get political these days. Or at least what a lot of people consider to be political. I come to this forum for RV information and experiences. I really don't give a hoot about any other vehicle or topic, which seems to consume quite a bit of content here. I just don't open or read the threads instead of getting offended by them.

I yearn for the days of "My water heater quit" or "No lights" posts... I really like helping people (that want to help themselves).
Back then I would get chastised or banned or called a troll for throwing a fast quip to the OP for not providing enough info for us to help them. "I wasn't being 'nice'." :-/
